Today my friend called me up, yelling about how he got a free IPod in the mail. Completely skeptical, I asked him how he managed it. He went on to tell me about this website (http://www.freeipods.com) that he signed up on. He gave them his email address, and some other basic information including his home address of course, so they could send it. He said then it asked him to refer 5 people, then complete an offer, and in a few weeks, they would ship him a brand new 20gb IPod, no catch. He referred 5 people like they asked, then for his offer, he chose Blockbuster online. Now, this was confusing to me. But anyway, he signed up for the free trial of blockbuster online, thinking, "Well, if I don't get a free IPod, I still get free movie rentals for a month." But in 2 weeks, just as he had hoped, he got his free IPod in the mail. Astonished by this, I went over to his house to see if he was really telling the truth. When I got there, sure enough, there it was, a brand new IPod. Except one thing -- it had "FreeIPods.com" engraved into the back, but that is a small price to pay. In fact, it isnt a price to pay at all.

Trying to be sure about this....I googled it, and found several blog entries from people who had done the same exact thing as he did, and got their IPods, just like he did. I looked around their site, and found that they do the same thing for PSP's, Nintendo DS's, even full on PC's. Now I'm seriously considering this. What do you guys think?

I would recommend that if you are going to try it, use a disposable (anti-spam) e-mail address, never give your home address (use a P.O. Box only), and if you refer people, use only disposable e-mail addresses for them. I suspect that your friend is going to be inundated with spam and unwanted snail mail very soon, if it hasn't already begun ...

Well I would have checked about that, however...

I've also been told that CNN had something about it and reportedly it's completely safe.

I'll see what happens with him, and if he doesnt get anything, I'll go for it. Oh, about P.O Boxes, they don't send to those.

Ive gotten spam for stuff like this. Every one that I've checked out required that you sign up for and be approved for at least one major credit card.
I have the credit rating from hell so there's no way I could do that. But if the most you need to sign up for is Blockbuster Online then I'll try it! I have a PayPal debit card so I could at least do that much. I've always wanted an iPod! I dont know if I could find 5 people who'd sign up for me though. How much do they need to do for me to qualify? I wonder if my good friends at TT would help ol' Nessie out...

The req. for this, as claimed, go as follows:

You give them your email, and they send you a verification thing. You varify your account, then you can choose an "offer" one of those being Blockbuster Online.

Also within that email they send, they give you a link, which you must give to 5 people, and have them sign up and do this same thing as well. Once they have been referred by you using that link, and have signed up to get something, maybe their own iPod, then a few weeks afterwords you will get an iPod, completely free of charge.

They do not ask for your credit card or anything, just your home address so they can send you the iPod. The only time you'd need to use your credit card is for blockbuster online. But be careful, and when you use their link to do the blockbuster online offer, make sure the URL says you're at blockbuster.com. Sometimes the link they give you just puts you in a copied version that is still on their site. In this case, keep going to the link until it gives you blockbuster.com, because you don't want to give some random organization your credit card number 😉

From the reviews I've read, no one has gotten anything more than a few spam emails, which can easily be filtered and never bother you again.

It seems perfectally foolproof, but there is the hassle of the referrals. Make sure to read all the fine print if you're planning on trying this. I'm going to research further before I try it.

I went and answered my own questions 😛
Looks good enough for me. I found a bunch of people online who say it's legit. Getting 5 people to at least sign up for a Blockbuster Online thing shouldn't be too hard.
One question for your friend though...Is the blockbuster thing the first month free or is it the first month for 9.95 thing?
I figure I can tap the folks Hubby works with. If I offer to pay half of the first month of Blockbuster then Im still getting an iPod for $25. 😀 We'll see if it works 😛
Thanks for the link!

Actually I'm not sure if he said it was the whole month free. In fact when I first heard about that I believe it said 2 weeks are free, but a normal month of it costs $14.95. Even so, thats one dang cheap iPod 😀

And you're welcome for the link!

Remember to make sure the URL it takes you to is really blockbuster 😉 we wouldnt want you to get scammed now would we? I don't know why it does that but I got it to take me to blockbuster after trying it a few times more.

Weird...it takes me to a different page in Opera than it does in IE. I think I'll use IE cause in Opera it doesnt let me see the URL. Hopefully it will work.
Looks like the first month is $10 and it's $15 after that. Finding 5 people to sign up for that shouldn't be terribly difficult, right?
...right?
Anyway if any kind person out there wants to help me click here... http://www.freeiPods.com/?r=16342980
Unless the OP is going to offer his link then do it through him since it was his idea. 😀
Maybe I'll put it in my siggy.....

Alright, I'll be sure and follow that link if I decide to do it
It would be a pleasure.

On another note: Yeehaw! Post number 100!
