Maybe Its Just Me, But The Thought Of Action Figures Being Tickled Does Not Do A Thing For Me

I Am Dayawalla

Wow! I haven't seen pics of those dioramas in a long while!

Many of them were created by me; I no longer have my old email address of [email protected]. I haven't done a diorama in a long time but I am planning to get back into it soon with a new creation!

Nice stuff Did you also do a diorama that was based on a story from the Nylon Dungeon from TFTA?

You're right, Lovs2tickle. These are very keen! I particularly like the Harley Quinn scenario and "Supergirl Captured" (clever insert shot of the laughing face. This seems an original sculpture, too).

Hope to see some new creations very soon, Nylonhound. You do good work! We need more artists building and submitting dioramas.

Love the Joker one.And the Catwoman pic.Very good and different. 😀

Not so far, but...who knows what tomorrow will bring?

By the way, I didn't do all of the dioramas pictured; only the ones that state Created by [email protected]. Joker/Harley Quinn, Catwoman/Batgirl, Lex Luthor/Supergirl, The Blonde/Wonder Woman, and Nova/Namorita.

TickleQueen, I fully agree with you.
The person who did those must have veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery much free-time don't you think? 😀

Constructing and displaying dioramas is not a trivial exercise, and is no more illegitimate than graphic art. It requires, in fact, two separate skills: modeling (even for those instances employing action figures: they must be chosen for appropriateness and placed in proper attitudes for the scenario. Then, special props need to be found or constructed. Note the milk bottle in the initial Batgirl/Catwoman diorama. Hardly standard equipment for either set. Or the cats themselves, for that matter... not to mention the restraints); and photography. I'm anxious to try a few displays myself, as soon as I figure a way to develop the pictures without a visit by the local cops for producing and disseminating "prevert" material. Hardly a job for the local Wal-Mart. A digital camera would seem to be in order, which at present I don't own.

Curious! Where did you get these? Because I actually owned (well used to own before I broke it :*( ) that one that has Nova and Namorita.

omg, if there was a diarama of Buffy getting her bare soles feathered, i'd just die, if i lived, i'd buy it, almost any price.

are these buffy diaramas??? can someone post larger pics of those? and if they are buffym i sooo gotta buy them.

What a neat idea! I would have never thought of doing something like that.
I've always wanted to do some sort of clay sculpture but I havent got any knowledge of or means of doing the whole firing/glazing thing. 🙁

I'm not sure how much firing/glazing is actually involved. My interpretation is that most of these are actual action figures bought from Toys R Us, then staged in little dramas with various other hand-crafted props and sets to create a scene.

With all respect to the artists, I appreciate the attention to detail and scenerios established in all of these shots. I would think, much like some people build models of airplanes and stuff, that this is similar. It takes a great deal of time, patience, creativity, and talent.

The Supergirl shots by BZTickler seem more like they were fired and glazed than the others, but judging the frames themselves, I like them all.

You don't necessarily need complex firing/glazing skills to create original sculpture. Look for Sculpey-III at your local hobby shop. Sculpey-III is an artists' clay that can be hardened in your own kitchen oven. It comes in a wide range of colors (so it won't need to be painted) and is quite easy to work with. I'm afraid it's a bit pricey (around $2.00 for a 2 oz. brick), but the results achieved are quite gratifying. Just be sparing with it. The material requires minimal experimentation to use. The main concern is not to overcook.

Note: there is a variety of Sculpey clays, so be sure you've got Sculpey-III. It provides the best, most durable results. And I think the original Sculpey comes only in base colors (white or gray).

lol I know Skyler....I was off on a tangent, not talking about the figures posted here. 😛
SCULPEY! I forgot all about sculpey. Now I'm inspired...I may go and get some tonight. Any idea how you go about painting Sculpey and finishing it with a nice glossy coat of glaze?

may i supply a request for a diarama for someone to do, even for a first time? think someone can do Buffy getting her soles feathered by Willow, that would be awesome.

Back when I was building figures from original Sculpey, I colored them with Testors model paint (designed for plastic model kits). It adhered quite well and came in a wide variety of glosses (Testors also makes a clear-coat which would serve your purpose).

I've never tried to paint Sculpey-III, since (1.) it already comes in so many precolored varieties, and (2.) I've only ever used it to build minor props that needed no subtle color. These days, I tend to favor acrylic water based paint for my figures (it commonly comes in 2 oz. plastic bottles). These are easy to find at big arts/crafts stores, are inexpensive, and come in a huge range of hues. Most brands (Delta Ceramcoat, Americana, Folkart, and Apple Barrel are pretty common; they're all about the same, quality-wise) offer a clear-coat that can be applied once the paint job has dried. It shouldl supply the glossy patina you want. I don't know for sure that acrylic paint will adhere well (the paint job will certainly be delicate once it's finished), but Sculpey-III dries to a hard, resin-like consistancy, which makes me hopeful (original Sculpey has a rubbery feel when cured. I'd be less confident using acrylics on it). You might want to buy a single bottle and run tests first.

I hope this helps. Love your enthusisasm, ness! Really want to see what you come up with!

You out there, Kalamos? We've gotta get in on this! I think it's gonna be the next big thing (with our modeling skills, we could clean house! )

I will definately be painting. Sculpey costs $2 for 2 oz or you can get 1.75lbs for $10. I went with that one! It's plain white but I have a TON of acrylic paints. When I'm done painting I'll get a little bottle of sculpey glaze (about $4) to finish it with. Hope I can make something good. I haven't used clay in almost 10 years.
