Ross's discomfort about what Alan Hell had asked Ross to do, was not helped by the fact that Ross needed to visit his dentist.
Ross had kept making appointments in recent weeks, and then putting them off due to the residual effects after his Botox shots.
Finally, Ross knew he had to go.
When Ross finally visited his dentist, Ross's dentist, whom he thought was a wonderful person, Doctor S, told Ross that Ross had popped loose a filling.
For a half hour to 45 minutes, all Ross heard from his dentist was drilling. Ross's dentist also had to pop out the filling, and cement it back in.
Doctor S told Ross that Ross had to come back in seven days to check something else.
Ross's cause was not helped by the fact that as he was getting out of the dentist's chair, Ross got a dizzy spell, and almost fell out of the chair.
The next night did not prove to be any better for Ross, as Ross's beloved baseball team, the Atlanta Braves, who had won the World Series the year before, got drubbed by the Philadelphia Phillies. One more loss would send the Braves home for the winter. The Braves had to win a game in Philadelphia, and then another one in Atlanta the day after, to move on to the next round.
Ross was just in a seriously pissed off mood.
Reorganizing Alan Hell's marketing campaign was the last thing Ross would ever thought he would have to do, or wanted to do. Ross knew that he had to do it,. or there would be trouble with Alan Hell.
Ross studied some ideas for a few days, then searched for other law firms "baiting" with their clients.
Ross decided to try a similar , but not "Copycat " tactic.
Ross hoped to Heaven that he was going down the right path, or the consequences might be the worst he had ever experienced.
Since Ross had thirty days to accomplish the task, Ross did what he did best. When he was upset, and not feeling great, he ran away, as in a trip to Oklahoma City.
When Ross told Kayley, his partner was not happy.
"Let;'s see. You just had major dental surgery, you have been dizzy and falling all over the place this whole week. Alan Hell gives you this major project with a deadline which you know you must work on, and you want to run away to go bury your head in OKC fantasyland? Really, really mature, market boy. I dont care how many times you snipe at me or try to whine and complain, these are my feelings, and they will not change! " Kayley said strongly.
Ross was upset, but he also knew that Kayley was right, and did not want to start a fight with her.
The next day, Ross went into the office, and simply stared into space.
Finally, Ross did something, unorthodox.
Ross called a staff meeting.
"Okay, John knows this, but I am letting everybody else know as well. Alan Hell wants to reorganize his marketing campaign for his entire firm to bring in more business. I'm almost, apprehensive to throw a pitch. Thus, this is what I'm thinking. John is already at work on this. Anyone else in this room who is not working on something with an immediate or very short term deadline, is to please contribute. This is too important for us to mess up. John, in the meantime, to make your life a bit easier. I will do Timothy's monthly work myself this month, just for this month, and explain to Timothy that an important client, without saying it is Mister Hell, gave me an extremely important project with a 30 day deadline, so I am taking over your work just for this month. As for OKC, it will be a wait and see. I may hop down there for a couple of days this week, and then just stay up here until Mister Hell's work is finished and in his hands, I dont know yet" Ross said.
Ross then called Fritz. "Partner, I am at my wits end. My brain is literally frozen on what to do with Alan Hell. Plus, I had major dental surgery yesterday and I'm in a lot of discomfort, I have to go back to the dentist in 7 to 10 days without fail. I dont know why I'm so scared to do work on Alan that is normally so routine for me. I think I would like to come down there for three days if we could get one or two investor shows. Teacher might roar, but I will calm her down. After this trip., I may not be able to show my face there for a month, six weeks or two months, depending on what happens with Alan Hell's work" Ross said.
"Okay, let us know what you have in mind and come down when you are ready" Fritz said.
"I will be down in two days, three tops: " Ross said.
When Ross got home that night, Kayley said.
"How's your tooth?"
"Annoying, ah, Kayley. I'm absolutely frozen about ideas for Alan Hell's campaign. I'm thinking I want to go to OKC for three days at most" Ross said.
"Ross, you know that I never tell you not to go. You just had dental surgery. You have this deadline, and I know you are pissed off that the Braves season might be over tomorrow, but, running away from New York is not the way to deal with all of that" Kayley said.
"Kale, if the Braves lsoe, I will be pissed, upset, but it does not change what I have to do, and what I'm feeling about Alan Hell. Maybe, if I go away for a few days, do a deal or two, even a small one, and refresh my brain, I can come back with a clear head, and come up with a bang up or at least satisfactory campaign. The clock is ticking, and I have not even left the end zone or tried to take a shot at the basketball net yet. That upsets me to no end" Ross said.
"Okay, call Fritz and go. You have 72 hours from when you leave, and I will say nothing. After that deadline, I will be roaring. No LV side trips, no explanations or Bullshit. Right to OKC, and right home, got it?" Kayley said.
"Yes., I got it teacher" Ross said.
Ross called Fritz and told Fritz that Ross would be down the next day.
Ross made a noon flight to OKC, slept that night, got up, packed, took an Uber to JFK, and the plane took off.
Why was Ross leaving town when he had a deadline for such an important client like Alan Hell, and when his tooth was not feeling well.
What would happen in OKC? Would Ross be okay physically, and would the trip even be worth it?
Those things remain to be seen.
