Folks who have sat down and spoken to me in person or on the phone have probably encountered my disruptive technology talk at some point. It's a pretty simple idea, a new technology, idea, or execution of a process comes along and it utterly destroys the way things are done.
You Tube was one such technology. It's become the worlds music box. If you want to hear it, there it is. Free, well at least to you. This has certainly put a dent in music sales. It's been changing the music industry. It's Disruptive.
Meet Popcorn Time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=da6kCM2i6cw
To download a copy google Popcorn Time, and you'll be on your way.
What is it? It's a Torrent search skin.
When you open up Popcorn Time, it connects to dozens of Torrent sites around the world. It keeps track of them and finds them on it's own. It filters out the good and bad ones. Then it offers you categories of movies, and soon TV shows that you can pick from. Click on it, and after 30 seconds or so, you are streaming the film to your computer. Free. You are not downloading anything, you are just viewing the film. Is it illegal to do so? Oh yes. You are violating copyright. So understand that you are not on the side of the angels using this. But if you use torrents, you were doing it already, but actually downloading copies, which is even more illegal.
But is Pop Corn time illegal? Nope. It's just an interface. It makes Torrent use simple. So simple and safe anyone can do it. Just like Youtube did for music clips. It's not illegal to make a tool that does this, and the movie companies have tried to kill it several times now. And it's not possible, the program is not illegal in any form. It's also an open source program, that is not seeking to make money in any way shape or form. There is no one to attack to kill it. No money stream to strangle. It's an idea. And we all know how hard it is to kill an idea….
Popcorn Time is Disruptive.
It will change things.
This is how technology alters the world. Watch. Enjoy.
