Do You Plan Your Meals Days In Advance??

I'm seriously hoping this doesn't turn into a "Mitch blowup" thread.

My question is: Generally, do forum members plan their meals days or a week in advance.. or do you go day by day according to how you feel?

I've already admitted that I'm a bad cook. Usually, I take to ordering in, or eating out, one cheap meal a day, and I have sandwiches the rest of the time. Sometimes on the morning of the day, I'll think "Okay, will order this food or go to this restaurant today, but its not days in advance".

My friend Barney will often recite to me what restaurant he's going to eat in.. for the whole week while working. He'll go.. "I';m going to eat at Burger King on Monday, Mcds on Tuesday, and KFC on Wednesday".. days in advance. I'm thinking "How do you know this.. days away? " I often don't know what I want until that day or the night before.

Thoughts on this?

I go shopping and buy things in bulk. I don't have an exact menu for the week but with just me and a little one to cook for I don't need much. I just go in with an idea of what I want and pick up several things; pasta, various meats, plenty of veggies, that kinda thing. I am excellent with baking cakes or brownies or breads or cupcakes, but with actual meals I generally ask the little guy what he wants and give him 2 or 3 options to choose from.

I don't even go day by day. It's more like, hour-by-hour.

If I did go day by day, it sure as hell wouldn't be three fast food restaurants in a row. I wouldn't live to be sixty on that kind of a diet.

I just go to the supermarket (Trader Joe's) or restaurant and buy what appeals to me at that moment. 😀

Yeah, we buy a whole mess of chicken and then some vegetables and other stuff and I cook about 2 or 3x a week.

You have to plan somewhat so you know what to get at the store. But we get enough stuff so that there are options and I tend to figure it out a few hours before what I'm gonna make.

Interesting thread, Mitch. I like to cook, and I usually have one no-holds-barred dinner party per week for my younger colleagues,.... So yeah, I try to map things out at least three days in advance. And I can't go slack on grocery shopping because I have a gigantic dog who likes to eat as much as I do.

I wish I could plan ahead on what I will eat for my sit down meal at a truck stop. 😛
I am limited on what is either on the menu or the buffet. I try to eat only one meal at a truck stop.Getting to expensive in those diners anymore.

Varied and interesting answers. Thanks, guys, and gals. I love how Pied said he has a gigantic dog who eats as much as he does lol.

Long ago, my family used to plan meals, I guess. When my mom got sick, she completely stopped cooking, because she couldn't, and the Drs were like, just get her what she wants, when she wants, because her eating something is better than eating nothing. If she wanted.., pizza at 10pm at night, and wasn't feeling too sick to eat it, that's what we had.

It's like.. tomorrow.. I think I'm going to lunch at Pizzeria Uno, unless I feel like doing something different than that in the morning. Last night, Barney was already like "I want to go to Boston Market for dinner on Sunday night". (I'm supposed to see him). Its like.. "How the fuck do you know this.. five days in advance". I had lunch at 11am today, and when I came home, was going to have a sandwich, but felt more hungry, so I decided to order the cheap Chinese lunch special.. at 4pm.. on spur of the moment.

This may be in line with Barney's compulsion to plan things long term in general. He's always been like this. My family was always more day to day. My dad is still like that, unless he has a meeting or business trip he knows of in advance.

The only "long term thing" I know.. is this weekend. I plan to watch the Mets and Braves play their series in Atlanta from Friday night to Sunday afternoon. Besides that, who knows?

I usually plan a day in advance, though I'm not averse to doing things spur of the moment. I do love to cook though, so like many people have already said, I buy stuff that i know I want to eat so I have options later

I generally keep to a pretty strict diet unless it's a special occasion, so my menu doesn't vary overly much.
