Does Somatosensory Amplification Decrease With
Antidepressant Treatment

Does antidepressant decrease ticklish sensation?

I know many of us take some type of antidepressants. I stop because it seems it decrease my level of sensitivity while being tickled.

What do you think? Does it increase of decrease your level of sensitivity when being tickle?

That's a good question. I'd love to know that, now that you mention it.

I've noticed tho, a lot of people who take that stuff flatline emotionally. Yeah, they don't have the symptoms of depression anymore, but they don't have any real highs either. They're just sorta....there.

I know that a common side effect for antidepressants for people to lose a bit of their sexual excitement so I could see how that would effect tickling sensations in some people, esp. if tickling is tied in with their sexuality.

I have some decreased sexual issues, but can climax ok eventually, but no my sensativity is fine. Keep in mind that the drugs are acting in neurotransmitters and not on skin cells, so if it's a decreased sensation it's due to seritonin not with the skin itself. And as to that comment about emotions and people being "just there" , you need to look more carefully, it's a balance, you're not really supposed to have highs and lows, but be in the middle, you'll have bad and good days, it doesn't cure depression by any means. I still get very depressed, but it's not a constant like it was for years, walking around in a fog. Hth.

I'm with dcbahr....I don't think how antidepressants can have any effect on the skin sensitivity, and that is where ticklishness is happening.

i went on anti-depressants way, way before i started doing sexual things. so i don't know. 🙁

Depends which one, I'd imagine. Some will decrease it, some will increase it. I've not had any happy pills for three years. Dothiapin (dosulapin) certainly decreased it... and just about everything else. Basic prozac sent me hyper, as I recall. That would probably increase it!

Does cocaine count? Because if cocaine counts then that doesn't make you less ticklish at all.

TELL THAT TO DAVE HE WON'T STOP TOUCHING MY LEGS

Absolutely it would depend on which one. I've taken Dothiapin before and you're right, it basically makes you feel like you "exist" and nothing else. Well, it did for me anyways. I hated it. So I switched to Celexa and that was much better for me. It's been a while since I've taken them as well but they did help get me through a rough time. Everyone is going to respond to them differently. I've had friends that have taken Dothiapin as well and they had no problems with it. Made me feel like a damn zombie and I know in that state, I would have had decreased sensitivity with pretty much everything.
