I just read an article about a guy.. who.. apparently.. is a.. "Professional Breaker Upper".

Yes, according to this article.. 21 year old Johnathan Kiekbusch, offers his services to people .. for 20 British Pounds per hour, plus his expenses, to break up with their significant others by phone or e-mail.. if the people in question who are hiring him, dont want to do so directly.

There was a poll posted on Comcast asking partcipants if they would engage in such a service. 88 percent said "No, to break up that way.. is tacky".

I personally.. happen to agree with the majority. What happened to the "Have a nice life", "Go To Hell" or "Fuck Off". (symbolicly) e-mail? The phone slam breakup? The "We like each other, but it's just not working out, and Good Luck in everything" final date?

What do forum members think of this service? Could you see yourself ever using such a service?

Thoughts?

My face is my break-up tool. Welcome, you've got FAIL!! I have been dumped more times than Purina goose chow! The last time was by e-mail (from her). I realized we were not getting closer and understood her desire to end it. To go the third party route would really twist the knife or pour salt in the wound, but for some people that would be the whole point.

I would never use this. But I've known some people who probably would and should have.

You never know. I helped move a woman out of her house while her husband was away because he was abusive and she feared for her safety. This would have been an appropriate way to end things for her in the dating stages when they had separate homes and the abuse was just starting. Relationships are a tricky deal...it's tough for one to be a judge of another persons relationship. We'll never know the whole story to say "I wouldn't have done it like that".

GQ has a point. In the case of abuse, perhaps this would be a useful tool. There is always the internet, or phone method, of breaking up, if someone fears physical abuse from the other party, but.. doing it this way.. would be less.. emotional..and.. dangerous.
