Downloading Java To Get Into Chatroom..

I havent been into the chatroom in a long time, likely for the last several months, since I had my old computer fixed, and got this computer.

The problem is Java. I keep getting a message saying I have to download java to get into the chatroom. When I go to download it, I get a message that says "This application can harm your computer". As anyone who has read my posts knows, I got a new laptop about two months ago, to replace my old computer that died. I'm a little.. paranoid about it.

So.. my question is.. is it safe to download the Java, so I can get into the chatroom.. or is the message that the Java can harm my computer.. a real threat that should be taken seriously. As can probably be understood.. I REALLY dont want to take a chance on damaging what is still a relatively new computer.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks..

Java is a pretty standard application used by millions millions of times a day. The warning you are getting is a pretty standard warning on today's computers that appears when trying to download a program that is not recognized by your operating system. Should be safe to download but you may want to check with the company you bought the computer and operating system from if it remains a concern to you.
