I've smoked pot for years...I know the people I get my stuff from...and they always smoke it first and will be able to tell me if it's been laced (all you have to do is light the edge of a bud and if it stays lit for more than a second, it's laced). Yes, it can be recreational. But when you've suffered from chronic back pain since you were 11 and the only thing that stops the pain is smoking a bowl...well, I see no harm in Val's idea. If it's regulated, then people won't get laced stuff. Also, I don't care what anyone says--this stuff saved my friend's life. She was on chemo for breast cancer a few summers ago, and she couldn't keep food down, had no appetite to begin with, and was in enough pain she couldn't sleep. This went on for a few weeks until I bought her a bag...and from that point forward, a few puffs before dinner, and she ate, kept it down, and got to sleep. She got through the rest of her chemo and is now in remission. It can also be used as an appetite stimulant for anorexia, or for terminally ill patients, or as an anti-emetic for AIDS/HIV patients. It has so many benefits...smoking is never good...but if there are actual medical benefits to something...well, I say lets regulate and decriminalize it. I think alcohol damages your body far worse. Plus, if I drink a bunch of alcohol, there's a chance of me potentially hurting myself or others being a drunk douchebag. If I smoke, the most that will happen is I might read a book, watch TV, eat dinner, or have sex. I dunno...
I have tried many other drugs, which I will not condone or advocate the use of, I'm just saying I've tried them...opium, hash, mushrooms, coke (one time--didn't do anything for me), all sorts of pain pills (which I understand why they would be addictive and won't do unless I'm in real pain anymore), and a few others...I learned something from each of them...and it was fun, I knew who I got the stuff from, and I was with people I trusted every time in a safe environment. Still, I'm not going to tell anyone to run out and try anything. It's a personal choice whether or not you choose to try such things. Either way, I won't knock a person for trying it, and I won't knock them for not trying it.
