Email notifications issue

I've noticed that, for quite awhile now, email notifications I receive from this forum (of, e.g., new replies to subscribed threads) have been showing no sender address or name on the From line, but the From line appears to be completely empty.

Although I haven't been visiting this forum on a frequent basis for awhile now, as far as I know I haven't failed to receive any notifications because of this issue. However, I would think that some email services might reject such messages or route them to the spam folder as suspected spam. But even if not, this might complicate things for those email users who may prefer to filter their incoming messages on the basis of the sender and/or to "whitelist" certain senders to help prevent the messages being treated as spam.

Is there a particular reason for these messages containing no From name or address or is this possibly an oversight? Thanks.

We probably never put an email in for whatever option the notifications pull their from address out of. It doesn't matter terribly much, as the email does have a from address on it; it's just buried and not in the traditional from field. It's nothing to really worry about; we're more likely to end up in spam folders simply by being automatic forum notices than anything else.

Probably true, although apparently Gmail can't find it, since it shows "unknown sender", in the sender field. 😉

Agreed, it's not a major issue, which is why I haven't brought it up here before now even though I've been noticing it for months. And it's likely there are other things which might be more likely to cause the messages to be classified as spam. It can be an inconvenience, though, for users of some email services which might have no provision for whitelisting or filtering on the sender without a From line entry. And they're the only messages I can recall ever receiving with nothing on the From line which weren't spam. So they're "unusual" in that sense.

I doubt I'll be losing a lot of sleep over it, though. 😉 Thanks for the reply.

Gmail can't find it? How do you mean? I don't use Gmail, so I'm not certain of what function you speak of. Do you mean Gmail can't find a sender to display? That's perfectly fine; it just does not look anywhere other than the "From" area. If it's impacting your ability to search for or otherwise act on email, let me know, as that is a problem.
