So last week I watched The Amazing Spiderman (didn't see it in the theatre) and I have to say---I really didn't know what to think of it. It actually depressed me. I felt the take on the new character of Peter Parker was a bit emo. I realize there being such a backlash of campiness coming from "Batman and Robin" and "Spiderman 3" but are producers and directors taking it too far.
I was talking to two of my friends (in there 20's) and they said it is the spiderman for their generation. His relationship with Aunt May and Uncle Ben were strained, he was not a nerd but a loner which in my opinion caused him not to have friends by his choice and had issues all around. Going back to Batman rises..Bruce Wayne gives up being Batman for eight years after Racheal dies???? His parents being killed in front of him is what caused him to become Batman to begin with. Wasn't he supposed to strike fear in the hearts of criminals...at this rate, just take out someone he cares for and he will be a emo ball of mess.
Man of Steel..Superman. I am not sure of this but I get the feeling they are going dark with this too. Clark Kent is trying to find out how an alien lives among humans and being one of his kind. How is he going to fit in...are you friggin' kidding me!! They touched a part of that on Superman Returns and I have to say it didn't work either. What's next... a Wonder Woman that can't deal with men being on this planet after being raised around women all her life. I used to collect comics when i was younger to escape reality. One of my friends said that she thinks its a stupid way to go also. That this generation doesn't need to watch superheroes on a emo trip to relate to them. It totally negates why we watch them. what do you think?
