End of the Universe?

I've been doing some research into physical cosmology and quantam mechanics (no real reason, just because I can) and have found a rather grim but utterly fascinating topic being discussed that I'd like to get some input on.

How do you think the universe will end?

I've read over the various scenarios and, with typical arrogance that is a feature of the human condition, most people seem to think that there are only a limited number of ways this could happen, most of which seem to be based upon the ultimate conclusion of whatever your preferred theory of cosmology happens to be:
- The Big Freeze/ Heat Death theory which the coolest-sounding one based on the continued expansion of the universe eventually taking it too far apart to sustain life meaning it'll all freeze or eventually reaching an "ultimate point" at which time everything will burn;
- The Big Rip which requires that time is infinite but the universe is not and simply involves the universe expanding too far to sustain it's cohesion meaning everything will just sort of fall away from everything else;
- The Big Crunch which assumes that both time AND the lifespan of the universe are finite and states that at some point the expanding universe will begin to contract until all matter is compressed into a singularity;
- The Multiverse theory, which assumes multiple parallel universe exist and thus there is no way for the universe to ever totally end;
- The False Vacuum, which postulates that the vacuum is not, as is currently believed, the lowest state to which matter can fall and speculates that the universe may simply just sort of fall into whatever state is lower than a vacuum;
- And finally the Multiple Level theory, which states that the universe has infinite "levels" which keep tumbling down into one another.

Personally, and this is just me, I think the end will be an amalgamation of the Big Freeze and Big Crunch theories. I reckon there'll be a point in the universe's existence when it will expand to what I call the "ultimate point", at which there is located a massive sign which simply reads "NIGGA PLEASE". Once this sign has been read by all intelligent life the entire mass of the universe will collapse into a singularity, possibly accompanied by some sort of comical sound effect.

Yeah yeah I know, TL;DR for such a weak punchline. I'll forgive you if you don't reply.

this is quite interesting, in my opinion everything will end with an implosion, since according to scientist everything started with an explosion(big bang), everything will just implode.

but thats just me

State reasons for your theory or it's not valid.

My preferred view on the ultimate destruction of the universe involves 3 things.

1. A small, adorable, but sometimes dangerous critter. (See: Rabbit.)
2. An overpopulation of these creatures, and soon, quite a few become sentient enough to harness the power of human tools.
3. The inevitable slavery of mankind by these rabbit men, also known as "Mabbits"
4. A certain loony Mabbit, who's name isn't something I could pronounce, let alone guess how to pronounce, invents a button that, when pressed, will cause the massive sign that headsnap was talking about to light up, allowing anybody in the universe to see it, which, would cause the explosion/crunch.

Aye Heat Death is the most logical if you're looking at it from a purely human standpoint and assuming that the theories and postulations which we call "Laws" are hard and fast facts immutable throughout eternity and entirety. I still like my "Big Sign" theory.

ever tought the universe is just like a star like our sun of a bigger picture so in other words boom

!!man we don't know what's out there!!

there are so many possibilities !
no offence btw it's kinda refreshing having to think about something that big ^^ so nice thread hope we have much replies kinda wondering what everybody thinks

haha well yes of course from a human standpoint. i guess from a beetle's standpoint the end of the universe is the large rubber sole of a shoe. but yes I'm talking about the end of the universe from a human standpoint using whatever facts or what we precieve to be facts that we currently have. and if it turns out that our whole universe is just being studied under the mircroscope of an even greater civilization that we cant even begin to comprehend..we should comebine our efforts to create the great laser cannon and kill them.

An interesting little thread, especialyl to an old A-level physicist like me ^_^ .

I think this is a very real possibility.

The Universe will be destroyed, I have not yet decided how or when I will do it though😀

I'm ending this right now.

The universe ending is just an old wives tale.

It will never happen... in our lifetimes.

oh i would laugh so hard at you if the universe collapsed in on it self tomorrow and everything ceased to exist..it would be worth existence to end just so you could get pwned.

Man am I sick of doom sayers...I mean that's all I ever hear. It's not that the theories aren't interesting, it's just that, theories. Well I just don't care anymore. Though that parallelagram thing sounds cool.

If it comes down to the world getting too hot, is there a possibility that evolution will take place again, granted over a very long time and maybe a different species.
But i tend to take it everyday as it goes, if the world ends i know that ive had fun.

But us in wales would never be able to stand the heat. We're not truly at home unless it's pouring down XD .

It's not here. There's an evil yellow orb in the sky though, so I'm chanting at it to make it go away.

If you keep it up for long enough it should go soon.
I just ran that through my head and in a way..... it sounded wrong.
I apologise i can get imature sometimes. 😛

haha this started as a thread about the world ending and has mutated into the "how to get rid of a yellow orb" thread haha

I've got a physical equation that I'd like your input on; you + me = two celestial bodies in equal states of attraction and some serious earth-shakin'. Yeah baybeh <3

Also, to the idiot who called me a doom-sayer: NIGGA PLEASE!!2

Well how should I say I was really big into physics and all that jazz until my first year of college when I failed calculus, and then the spring when I failed it again...Well I took up a philosophy minor which is much ado about really just debating topics and what have you so I think I have a decent go at this. However, I am not Einstein or Hawking so please excuse me if I do turn out to be wrong and the universe comes crashing down tomorrow. I've been attracted to the religions of the east and in those I have found my belief that "perhaps" the universe is just infinite. Granted it will not stay in this way forever, nothing stays the same (main tenent of Buddhism). I think humans have to have an answer for everything, it's in our blood to question, but I think the universe just is infinite. Unless you get into the philosophical discussion of what is reality and maybe this isn't "real" so how could it exist infinitely, well I'll stop now... : D I don't want a repeat of last week when I wound up in the dairy section of our local grocery store proclaiming to everyone, while in my pajamas, that I was going to be the next president of the USofA.
