The text that Ross had received was from Steve about two matters, both very negative.
First, and most important, that Mister P had a "bad night" and had been moved back from closely watched care to the ICU.
Mister P's heart was not functioning normally, and it was possible that he had experienced another minor heart attack, or had some other potentially serious problem.
Steve also said that the process of evaluating the company insurance coverage was going very slowly, and that the evaluators were thinking that maybe Steve and Ross should "put a temporary one month halt to investors payments"
While Ross and Steve had been told that the total evaluation would take thirty days, the evaluators now realized that it would not happen until well into the second month, so that it had to be done in time where a second month's distribution would not be missed"
There was insurance to cover damages, but, until the evaluation was finished, it would not be known if said insurance would be enough in case Mister P did pass away, new wells could not be drilled, new investors could not be brought in due to the whole mess financially, Mister P's condition, and Ross and Steve really not being able to attract, do PR for, or have the ability to sign new investors.
Ross felt a dark feeling come over him as Ross told Steve that Ross would meet Steve at the hospital As Soon As Possible.
Ross showered, downed a bagel and took his meds after breakfast, and jumped into an Uber to the hospital to meet Steve.
When Ross went up to the area of the ICU, he ran into Fritz's family and Steve. All of them had gloomy, stunned, looks on their faces.
"Mrs P?" Ross said quietly, touching Mrs P's hand.
"They dont know what happened. They did some tests on Fritz's heart, and are still waiting to see. It does not mean God Forbid the worst, but it is a step backward, possibly Heaven Forbid a major step backward. Mister P is not officially "unconscious " or in a Coma, but he is so barely awake, that it is the next possible level from being unconscious or in a Coma" Mrs P said,
"I'm so sorry, Ma'am. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone. I am here for you all, as I know Steve is as well" Ross said.
For hours everyone sat, with no update on Mister P's condition. Every hour a Doctor or Nurse came out to tell everyone that Mister P's condition was "Unchanged"
In the late afternoon, when Ross knew that Kayley would be home, Ross called Kayley to tell her the grim news.
"Things are worse here, Kale. Mister P had what the Doctors think was at least another minor heart attack or problem. He went back from closely watched care to the ICU. He is not officially in a coma or unconscious, but it is one small step away from it. The Doctors told us that it could be a rollercoaster, and that it might go from looking like he is getting better, to an episode where his heart, breathing, or BP would cause something to go backward. Steve, I, Mrs P and their family are all here. To tell you the truth, I feel like such a zombie that I cannot think. I will keep you posted" Ross said,.
"Take care, and give my prayers to everyone" Kayley said.
By Ten that night, with visiting hours about to end, and everyone needing to leave, except for Mrs P and one other family member being able to stay with Mrs P for emotional support, Ross, Steve, and others left the hospital. "Mrs P, please call me 24-7 if anything significant happens, okay? I am here for you no matter what" Ross said.
"Ross, you are a gem" Mrs P said.
Ross went back to the hotel, his phone next to him, curled up at his ear.
One day went into the next that week, with Mister P improving, and then getting worse. The Doctors decided to call in a top heart specialist from New York to do all kinds of tests on Mister P that they said they could evaluate best.
The tests began.
Mister P's family, Ross, and Steve were all physically and emotionally drained.
How would the tests turn out? Would Mister P be able to fight his way out , and get better, or would he continue to sink, and eventually pass away.?
All of that would be seen.
