A student at our local college did a fabulous computer science project. He created a computer station that combined facial recognition software with real-time connection to all data bases in the world, so it could tell who it was talking to and answer questions that they asked, tailored to them specifically.
Unfortunately, the fourth person to try it out was the Dean of the College and the conversation went like this:
Dean: Hello, computer.
Computer: Hello, Dean Williams. I know who you are because I've just scanned your face. You have New York state driver's license 453447-00873 which expires in three months ad two days. Ask me any question you want.
Dean: Where is my father, right this minute?
Computer, after a ten second pause: Your father is on a fishing trip near Cody, Wyoming.
Dean: And how did you know that?
Computer: I checked the last three uses of his credit card which were to pay for his rental car, check into a motel near Cody this afternoon, and buy dinner at a diner nearby. I also looked at his last text message which was to his brother, your Uncle Buck, about the fishing he was planning to do in the morning. He's also going to visit Yellowstone National Park.
Dean [to the computer]: You're all wrong. I have no Uncle Buck. My father had one sister and no brothers and he died 8 years ago. [to the student]: And you did a rotten job on this project, I'm going to have your grade changed to an F.
Computer: Your mother's husband died 8 years ago. Your father is in a motel near Cody, Wyoming.
