WallStreet, thanks for reminding me of Judas Priest, I can't belive I left them out, as well as Motorhead!
Priest was a great band, I just wish they hadn't tried to get synthetic with Turbo.
On the subject, here's another band I liked in Metal and you're gonna laugh, I know.
Twisted Sister.
I didn't really like the band all that much, I was just a fan of Dee Snider. I always got the impression that he was a great vocalist trapped in a bad band. Even though most of Sister's songs were rather dopey (with the exception of "The Price"), Dee always sang his heart out, a lot of inflections and control.
I had a picture of my older sister with Dee back when they were playing clubs in the NY/NJ area, and back when they were called "Twisted Sister" for a reason, wearing women's clothes. Nothing like seeing Jay Jay French in a Maid's outfit...
A note about my inclusion of the band Warlock...does anyone remember them? They were one of the few True Metal bands with a female singer, Doro Pesch. Man, could she belt it out! She was kinda hot, too. I saw Warlock live at one of the Castle Donnington fests back in the '80's, and she was doing the Xena thing before Xena was. They were a German band, the Germans really having put forth some of the best metal in the '80's.
Does anyone else wonder why more Metal bands didn't have female singers? You'd think that the sonic range would suit a female voice perfectly. Most of the female "metal" bands; Vixen, Lita Ford, et.al., were of the pop-metal variety.
There was one besides Warlock that was pretty decent and that was a band called Bitch. No kidding. All of their songs were about bondage, and the singer was hot! If you think the songs were cool, you should have seen thier live show...he he he...
