I always seem to notice that many Britons, Germans, Flemmish and Walloons seem to dislike Heineken as the water it actually really is. It's probably because they all have better beer on themselves (well I'm not sure about the German, not too bash but I find the beer over there also as soft as Heineken, but they don't serve it in small itty-bitty glasses like the Dutch do).
Over here in Flanders (and also the rest of Belgium) doesn't any market sell Heineken, the only places to get Heineken over here is in cafés actually owned by Dutch (in Brasschaat from where I live, which is full of (rich) Dutch). It's because it would never sell enough, since people lke our own beer better (like Hoegaarden, Brugse Witte, Palm, Duvel, Cronenburg, etc...). I'm pretty sure the best beer drinkers (except for some Eastern-Europeans) live over here, since very few beer beat Duvel (being heavy beer I don't drink myself, I'm not mad 😛).
For the beer I drink, it's got to be Hoegaarden or Jupiler (too much Hoegaarden, being white beer, is not good for your stool, if you know what I mean)
P.S.: About Heineken: We all know the Dutch are amongst the most charismatic within the Western cultures. It's also because of their commerciality Heineken got that popular I believe, good thing for the Dutch themselves. For Dutch beer I preffer Grolsch though, or Hougaerdse Das (if I spelled it correctly) :weird: .
