Hmm, this is a toughy. I would say Aladdin, but I think I like the Lion King more. I just like the flow of the animation in the Lion King. Everything is realistic even though its a cartoon. And the fact that theres this betrayal of blood and all these things that end up factoring into the movie actually caused me to forget that these are lions and animals, not humans. Its just that what they were doing was so human, even though this is taking place in the animal kingdom. The situation felt so human, and something that anyone could relate to or compare to other events of human history.
I think the way they blended human nature, and politics, and vices with nature and life in the wild bridged a gap which led to something extraordinary. They were able to successfully and effectively place the human condition on something that wasn't human at all. It gave a persective about life and animals that we haven't seen before in a Disney movie.
The characters in this movie really do have character. Its almost as if we're seeing life through the eyes of wild animals, but in such a way that its so closely related to what we are as humans that we have a connection with them, and thus can love, hate, or be indifferent towards them. Its for these reasons that I feel at least until this point that no other Disney movie can compare to the Lion King. In using wild animals in Africa to tell a very human story, really made this Disney movie a success in my opinion.
