Favorite John Candy movies

I can't stand the Uncle Buck film. Sitting all the way through that is like pure torture to me. I do think he is/was a very tallented actor though. Did he die ?

The four favorites of mine are:
"Planes,Trains, and Automoblies"
"The Great Outdoors"
"Armed and Dangerous"
also the role he played in "The Blues Brothers"

Yes. He had a heart attack around 1989. I think he was like 38 when he passed.

I personally always viewed him as a goof ball. Most of the roles I have seen him play, he always plays one type of charactar; A kind of guy that seems like a misfit and who gets ridiculed by other people.

I remember he was in the Blues Brothers and he played the sargeant of the two cops who initially started chasing "that shitbox Dodge".

He was heaps funny; the great outdoors, uncle buck and cool runnings were my favs but pretty much if I was flicking and he was in something I would watch it and most of the time get a laugh.

Kust

Uncle Buck, by far.

Best line: "Here's a quarter. How about you take a bus downtown, and find a rat to gnaw that thing off your face!"

He did die of a heart attack, but it was on March 4, 1994. It happened on location in Durango, Mexico. He was filming Wagons East at the time of his death, and he was only 43 years old. 🙁

I haven't seen too many of John Candy's movies, so in addition to the ones already mentioned, I'll add Who's Harry Crumb?, in which he plays a bumbling detective to the hilt, and Brewster's Millions, in which he portrayed Richard Pryor's best friend, baseball catcher Spike Nolan. A very funny man whose life came to an end all too soon (and that goes for Mr. Pryor also).

Thanks for the info AMK. I was way off as you can see. I don't want anyone to think I didn't like him. I found him entertaining and funny. It just seemed to me that he played one type of charactar.

For movies "Plains Trains & Automobiles" & "The Great Outdoors"...but in general, my true fave John Candy stuff was all the different charactors he was in SCTV...from the sleazy Johnny Larue to the spoof/cheese 3D horror film actor Dr Tounge lol

RIP to the great man

I had no idea his work was so extensive. I did love "Unlce Buck" and "Plaines, Trains and Automobiles". Overlooked was his small part in "Home Alone"

Oh and "Stripes" with the mud wrestling scene! LOL

And Space Balls! "What is your name?" "Barf" "Your full name!" "Barfolomew"

Of course I also cut my teeth on SCTV on late night here in the states.

He's missed by this here fat guy.
