My wife used to think that feathers only tickled people in cartoons. She said as much the very first time I used one on her, and it turns out, she’s feather ticklish almost everywhere. Not extreme, but undeniably ticklish.
Now, her feet are by far her most ticklish spot, with armpits being a solid second. As I love tummy tickling the most, she’s always thought that her tummy wasn’t super ticklish.
But feathers and soft vibrating tickles might be the kryptonite on her beautiful soft belly.
Feather tickling in general is an art form. Placement, pressure, angle, and speed.
She’s feather ticklish almost everywhere, including arms, legs, butt, neck, back, and more. Again, not uncontrollable, but enough to make her wiggle and need to move away.
Enter handcuffs, and then it’s really a treat. It’s a soft tickle, but one that she can’t shake. Flicking stiff feathers over her tummy, sides, and lower abdomen is the perfect primer for her ticklishness.
she often says “it’s so silly”, the idea of being ticklish by a feather. I think it’s because she still feels like it should be for cartoons, and not actually tickle a grown adult. I find this endearing to know that she’s still surprised by her own ticklishness.
Then she says my favorite line. She wiggles, or tries to pull away in a different direction, but when the soft, gentle, tiny feather persists still, she says “okay”. This “okay” always comes with a smile and a little laugh, as if to say “I didn’t think this would tickle, but it does, and I can’t help it”.
Curious to hear about the best reactions, responses, and overall dialogue around being feather ticklish.
