Finally, Mitch Passes The Exam...

Tonight, Saturday, November 23, 2013, at 945pm Eastern.. the news I have been working so hard to achieve finally happened..

I finally, finally, finally.. passed my online exam,,.. with a score of 73.

It was probably bound to happen, considering all the near misses lately.

I have to sit tight now. I can't e-mail Jay, my mentor, late on a Saturday night. I;m also not sure if I have to pass the exam twice. I've heard conflicting reports. Ed, the review course guy, says the proctored final wont open unless you pass the practice final twice. Jay has told me one only needs to pass once. I'm going to have to hold my horses until business hours on Monday, and inform Jay then.

I know I still have work to do, but I feel like a ten ton weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

Thanks to everyone who supported me through this process. The support of my friends and family has been crucial in helping me deal with the setbacks and frustrations of these many weeks.

Soo.. what does Mitch get to do on the day he passes? Likely nothing.

I have to e-mail Jay to find out the next step. ,, So even if I have to do that "Proctored Final" online, that's not til tomorrow.

My dad is in an all day meeting. He says we'll have dinner tomorrow.,

My other favorite place.. the track.

As mils and others know, the weather in NY today is terrible. 23 degrees, and most importantly, strong winds.

Tracks running today. Acqueduct, Philadelphia, etc, all tracks in the Northeast.

Sometimes, tracks don't run in very windy weather. I could go, and find there's nothing running.

The bagel place on Sunday morning is a disaster, not worth running several blocks in windy weather.. to stand on an hour line. I want lox on bagel, but not today.

My celebration will likely be sleep and Chinese food lol.

I did decide to go to the track..

As I expected, Philadelphia and Acqueduct were cancelled due to the windy weather.''

I broke even.,. and had fun.. but...

I came within.. an eyelash.. of winning a $900 trifecta.

I had bet.. a 1-6-8.. Trifecta box at Calder in Florida.

The thing was going fine.. all the way.. major long shots..

At the end.. a freaking 4 horse nosed it out,. and it came 1-4-6-8.

When I asked someone who knows horses better than I do,.. how much it would have paid.. his guess... around $900.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

I'm resting for 24 hours until I get in touch with Jay tomorrow.. to check what happens next. I'm utterly bored, and want to go back to work.

I came to this conclusion..

Everyone who knows me.. knows how much of an intense person I am.

In college.. Mitch the historical honors student was intense.. hungry to do well.. and most of the time.. I did very well.

Since my mom died. until very recently.. it was almost like I was.. a dead man walking.. A corpse was walking around in Mitch's body. The hunger was not there.

Since I got this Aflac opportunity.. the hunger has come back. It was like.. damnit, I'm going to pass this test.. if it kills me. Same goes for whatever the next test is, and the state final. If at first I don't succeed.. I will keep trying.

My dad said my voice sounded totally different today.. from how it did.

If today wasn't Sunday.. I would have e-mailed Jay to inquire. As it is, from a courtesy standpoint.. I couldn't.

Tomorrow morning.. an e-mail goes to him.. and hopefully.. passing the next part.. will be just a bit less.. arduous. then this one was.

Important info...

I got an email from Jay, my mentor.. I don't have to wait for Ed, the in class review guy, to give me the test in 3 weeks from now. Jay is a proctor and can give me the exam. After thinking it over, and discussing it with Jay, I'm going to take the real thing tomorrow at 11am, and try and get it over with. If I don't pass.. I can take it again. Taking it while the info is fresh in my mind is a good idea.

I hope and pray I can pass, thanks again for the support.

Taking the exam on short notice reminds me of a story our review course instructor, Ed, told us.

He's a Yeshiva U professor in addition to being a lawyer, and insurance agent.

He told our class that he once gave an exam just before Thanksgiving, which was pre announced. His entire class did terribly on it, because.. he later mused, the class had their minds on Thanksgiving, and not on taking the exam.

Shortly after Thanksgiving, he decided to give a surprise exam to the class. Everyone was upset, because they felt they weren't ready.

It turns out, the class did very well on the surprise exam.. much better than if they had time to think about the upcoming exam.

For me, this falls into both categories. I worked my ass off to get to the point of taking the proctored exam, thinking at first I had a while before I had to take it. Now, I find out I will be taking it, only hours before it happens. I don't know what result it will bring. Will I not be in the mindset to take it, on such short notice.. or.. will I be more sharp, having studied the information recently, and having just passed the practice final. Jay seems to feel the latter, which is why he wants to give me the exam now.

I hope I pass.. but.,. the solace is.. that it's not a "You must pass the first time.. or it's over for you" situation.. If I don't pass, I can take it again.

I feel a bit apprehensive.. but.. all I can do is to go in, and do my best.
