The first major snowstorm of the season is supposed to hit the NYC and Boston areas tomorrow night into Thursday.

The current forecast is from anywhere from six to as much as ten inches of snow in NYC, and eight to twelve inches in Boston.

Except for a few cold days, we have had an extremely mild winter in the NYC area.

After the cold, brutal and snowy winter we had last year.. it would figure that before the winter is up, we would get hit with something.

That outta teach ya'll up there, for winning the Superbowl.... But seriously, stay safe. Winter ain't over yet.

Winter? What's that? We've had record high temperatures nine days so far this year.

Yeh Bugman, we're asking the same thing here in Hotlanta..... trying to fan some heat up Mitch's way

I just awakened to find, that., not surprisingly.. The good old Winter Storm Warning has been issued for New York City.

Six to Ten Inches of Snow is forecast for tonight into tomorrow.

The forecast is calling for a supposedly "Short Duration Period Of Heavy, Wet Snow".

It looks like we're not getting through this winter with at least one major snow storm.

www.weather.com has just increased the accumulations for NYC.

While the Winter Storm Warning posted at the top of the page for NYC says 6 to 10 inches, the actual forecast, for tonight says 1 to 3 inches.. with 8 to 12 inches predicted for tomorrow. If one takes the two totals together, it would well mean up to a foot of snow.

This is going to be a major storm, unless the track changes..

The current temp in NYC is 61 degrees.

It's difficult to fathom that with this spring like weather today, within 18 hours there will be a heavy snow storm in progress.

I am supposed to deliver a load in Aberdeen,MD tomorrow by noon, then head home. From the forecast,I don't think that will happen.

They are now forecasting eight to twelve inches for NYC.

The snow is very close to starting here.

It is supposed to be a short duration event, of several hours., of extremely heavy snow.

At 3 am the temp is still 40 here, seemingly too warm for snow. The temps are supposed to drop, and then snow is supposed to begin falling and accumulating rapidly.

The forecast posted at 4 am Eastern on

www.weather.com

Has raised the expected accumulations.

According to the forecast, New York City is now supposed to see 10 to 14 inches of snow, with Eastern Long Island seeing 12 to 16 inches.

The rain has changed over to snow, but temps are still in the mid 30s.

It will be interesting to see how quickly the snow piles up, once the temps drop.

White Out conditions, with extreme blowing snow. Nothing can be seen from the window at this point.

The only factor preventing this storm from being similar to last year, is that today's storm is going to be a short duration of several hours. During last year's storm, snow fell for more than 24 hours.

I'd say the storm turned out pretty well considering this turned out to end around 4pm with the roads cleared.

The final total at the closest point to my apartment that was measured, Kew Gardens, Queens, was 12 inches. This was definitely a formidable storm. Now we have the winds, and the brutally cold weather. (Expected low of 15 degrees F tonight). After one extremely cold day tomorrow, it is supposed to warm up.

Mitch - you and some buddies could have some fun (but you'd need to dress warm...). Go to the nearest bus stop, and build a couple of snowmen, waiting for the bus. Assuming you have busses... Or have them hailing a cab. Make some fun out of a bad situation.... remember, just an inch of snow here in Atlanta can get us on the national news.

Yeah, rdhd, I'm surprised there is still bread/milk in the stores here in Georgia.(We do tend to overreact to the "S" word) I hope everyone in the NY,NJ,MA etc area is prepared. I hope the warm up Mitchell spoke about comes through on Saturday and the melt/thaw begins. We learned our lesson here in 1993 of how fast snow can fall and accumulate. Take care and be safe and warm.

Georgia- we weren't threatened with snow and ice and glaciers this time. And, had enough bread and milk, but not enough of the good stuff... But I still be alive! How's about's you?

And, Mitch, everything hungy-dory up there?

rdhd, today is in the 20s, with very high winds.

Tomorrow is supposed to be much warmer. It's supposed to rain on Sunday, and be sunny and much warmer next week.
