Since I have never been one to pass on a dare (particularly when its safe and anonymous), I'll give this a whirl. Just so we all are aware, I'm typing this in Open Office, and I'm going to try to not use my Word Count until I'm pretty sure I'm in the 500 word ballpark. Actually, now that I think about it, I'm not even sure Open Office has a word count option, and I really want to check, but no! I will press on.

I'm really sick of people who listen to National Public Radio and wear it like it's a medal of frickin honor. Like listening to “Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me” makes you that much cooler than anyone else. Just because you listen to public radio does not make you smarter or better in any way, it just means you enjoy public radio. I listen to it when the sports radio I usually listen to is in commercial, or there is screaming at each other, but I don't go around bragging about it. You don't need a bumper sticker, or a T-shirt, and if your homepage is NPR, that doesn't mean you need to keep opening a browser when you're doing a presentation. Not that I'm speaking about anyone in particular.

I really want to know how many words this is. Alright, alright, I'll check.

What would make a really neat carving for a pumpkin? Especially if you are not artistic by any stretch of the imagination. I don't want to do a face, or anything. I'd love to do a Van Gogh “Starry Night” type, but I think I'd wind up with pumpkin across my kitchen and a need for a trip to the pumpkin patch. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Let's see, I'm hitting a lull here. I really like this idea, Doctor. I'm sure I'll be the only one posting in this thread before long, but its kind of fun, like a blog that I can be sure no one will read. Wait, in that case, I should just use my TMF blog. Ba-zing!

Author's note: I'm feeling guilty that I just used “ba-zing” as a word, and now I've done it twice. I might go over to 502, just to ease my conscience.

Why did some teachers insist on a word count? Didn't that just encourage students to not make concise points. It would have been a lot harder to say “Make your case in 50 words”, not 500. That would have required people to do some actual thinking, and break down their ideas into a brief statement, not blather on and on without end. I think all political debates should do this.

In conclusion... Here's 500 words. I've changed my mind, and won't go to 502. “Ba-zing” counts if you use it thrice.
