anyone know how to convert an flv file to play in windows media player or which program i need (preferably one without a downloading fee)?? thx in advance!!

it didnt work. the clips are from photobucket if that helps anything. thanx anyway for your help!

Ah. Have you downloaded them as FLV files already or do you need to extract them from Photobucket first?

not that i know of. i go to photobucket where i saved them in my favorites list and they'll automatically play. and to the left theres a bunch of links like if i wanna post them to my myspace, or an html or something so i can copy/paste the original format or something, into my browser. i enclosed them here if you wanna try for yourself and as the treat you can just keep them as a thank you anyways, just for tryin to help. 🙂

You need to have those videos downloaded before easy conversion is possible. Tell me, what internet browser do you use? If you use Firefox, I can point you to an extension that is able to download videos of that nature and, supposedly, convert them on the fly. I wouldn't know if the conversion works or not; I watch the FLV files as they are.

i use aol and internet explorer. if firefox is the case i can download it and just go from there that is if its an easy process.

GOM Player is all you need. It plays just about every codec and what I use for all flv files. If GOM doesn't play it, God doesn't want you to see it. 😉

ya its not workin for me. oh well. thx anyways for tryin to help i appreciate it.

You need to be able to download the FLV files before that player will be useful. The VLC Player is another one to look at if you choose not to go the convert route.

Download and install Mozilla Firefox if you wish to try the extension. I can show you how to find the FLV files using Internet Explorer, but it's somewhat more annoying than a Firefox extension and it won't solve your problem of playing the things.

Firefox: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html
VLC Player: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

VIDEOLan's VLC Player is a multiformat freebie.
Also: try E.M. Video Player-also multiformat and also free!

You can also try changing the file extension: I do this all the time when downloading a vid I want to post to a social networking site: after dl'ing .flv file, change the extension to mp4.

thx for the links maxxnme, BUT my problem is, i dunno how to download the videos from photobucket to my hard drive, ya know with the 'save as' thats the problem im having. thank you for your help though i appreicate it!

the vlc player looks like it MIGHT work if i can get the video to actually download. thats my only problem. thx everybody for your imput!

The one use is RealPlayer. the latest one has the means to convert flv to realplayer. Im using it this minute. 🙂

thx admiral for your response, but im actually looking to get the videos from photobucket to my hard drive.

I don't think I've tried it with Photobucket specifically yet, and I haven't been using it for very long, but one of the best programs I've tried recently for capturing/downloading FLV files from web sites is the GetGo Download Manager, which can be downloaded (for free) at http://www.getgosoft.com/ . It can be set to capture FLV download links from Internet Explorer and Firefox.

I don't think it has the ability to convert the files after downloading them, but there are now a number of free programs which work pretty well for that, so if you succeed in downloading the files you want and need to convert them (although at least a couple of free players which can play FLV files have already been mentioned), one I've gotten quite a bit of use out of and which many seem to think works well is Format Factory, which can be downloaded at http://www.pcfreetime.com/ .

eh, thanx anyways. jeez photobucket really sucks. i mean i can save pix on there no problem but not videos. thx everybody for your help though, its all greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, the program I mentioned above didn't work when I tried it with one of the links in your original post above. However, not one to give up easily on "stealing" videos from "tube" sites, here's something I turned up in a search which you could try:

http://www.freevideozilla.com/download-photobucket-video.htm

Free Video Zilla is a professional photobucket downloader for download photobucket video, and It never lead to fail when you download photobucket video. Whatever you using any browser, It always download photobucket video successfully for you.
Using Free Video Zilla, you can download photobucket video with 3 steps: Run Free Video Zilla first. Then play photobucket video, FVZ will grab the video for you. The last, you only select the video and click “download” to save the video.

While there's always a risk in downloading programs from unknown sites, I use the McAfee SiteAdvisor Firefox add-on, and here's what they said about the FVZsetup.exe file they tested from this site:

1 green download

In our tests, we found downloads on this site were free of adware, spyware, and other potentially unwanted programs

I hope that might be of some help. Good luck.

freevideozilla didnt work either. thanx anyways, ill just save it in my favorites and not burn it and save it for later. i appreciate the help from everyone though.

Okay, I just found something that might be even better. How about a way to download the video without adding any new programs to your computer? From this page:

Example:
http://s202.photobucket.com/albums/aa105/blah/?action=view&current=MOV00037-1.flv

Remove:
?action=view&current=

Final url:
http://s202.photobucket.com/albums/aa105/blah/MOV00037-1.flv

Copy your final URL, paste it into your browser and hit enter.

A pop-up window should appear and give you the option to save it to your desktop.

Note: You'll need an flv player to view the SWFs stored on your computer.

Congratulations - you just downloaded a Photobucket video!

I just tried it and it works. As easy as the proverbial pie. I've saved the file from one of your above url's with this simple modified link:

http://s694.photobucket.com/albums/vv308/deadmenonly1/HPIM2040.flv

Go ahead, click on it. 😉

Edit: If simply left clicking doesn't work right, try right-clicking and selecting "save target as" or "save link as" (depending on which browser you use). And here's the modified link for the other page you had in your above post:

http://s72.photobucket.com/albums/i183/tzimber2003/dddiaasnapart3preview.flv

(And you thought your photobucket videos were safe from theivery 😉 )

wow thx! i appreciate it. it finally worked! i mean in the beginning it didnt, it said "file source is too large to read" but i just attached it into anyvideoconverter program and that fixed it. thx a bunch!!!!
ps- anyvideoconverter is a good program if anyone's interested btw. (i know im so computer dumb and my computer sucks bigtime) thx again!!!

You're welcome. It's amazing the things one can sometimes turn up with just a quick search. 😀

Thanks for the recommendation of Any Video Converter, btw, although I think that's one I already have in my ever-growing collection, and I'd agree that it's pretty good, as is the File Factory program I mentioned above which also has some useful additional features of its own.

oh i searched too, but then again, im computer dumb, its amazing that im doing computer drafting in college, and i cant even look that whole thing up. heh

I don't always turn up something useful in a search either, which is why I said "sometimes" above. But I think it may sometimes just be "the luck of the draw" in choosing the right terms to do the search on. And maybe a little practice. Since I'm long past my college days, maybe I've had a little more time for that. 🙂
