Hiya TT members, gay or straight.

I know that gay marriage has been a hot button topic here. I'm asking that that this thread not be attacked and dragged off topic.

On Election Day, 4 states voted to amend their constitutions to discriminate against their gay citizens.

On Saturday - November 15th - each state is holding a protest against the Prop 8 vote.

All (gay or straight) are welcome to find a city in their state and join the protest.

Just go to this link, and find your state and city.

I've found my place, and I'll be there on Saturday.

OK. I am someone who could care less what you or anyone else does or chooses to do with another person. Bone who ya like i say! But anyways, isn't the problem people have with the term "marriage" itself? I mean, you always hear that the very definition of marriage is between a man and a woman. Why cant we just call it something else? Then no one can bitch right? I mean, if the true definition of marriage is the union between a man and a woman, then thats it, we cant change the definition of words to suit our needs. It would be like changing the definition of the word Truck to mean motor cycle right? Just something i was thinking about. I say get "married" or whatever other word you want to call it, and let it have all of the same benefits but just under a different word. Does that make sense? Would you really care if you couldn't say you were married? And instead said you were something else that meant the same with with the exception of same sex partners?

Just thoughts i have had since election day. I'm all for gay folks, i have a few gay clients and discuss relationships with them and what not, doesn't bother me. I just want to make sure my stance is clear even if my above thoughts were not.

God, i know i voted No on that proposition banning Gay marriage, but it was just sickening to see all the homes across my city with vote yes on their lawns and windows.

Marriage is a legal contract that two consenting adults can enter into. It's always been man and woman because that's what society allows.

Giving a different term to a same sex couple gives a "seperate but equal" status, but that doesn't work. That's basically segregation. We've had segregation here in the past, and it doesn't work. People of color had to sit on the back of the bus, go to seperate schools, eat in seperate restuarants, drink from seperate water fountains.

It went on because society said it was best. Until black people stood up for their rights.

Marriage didn't start as a religious ceremony. It started as a contract where a man claimed ownership of a woman as his property.

The one issue that is happening now, is states are offering "domestic partnerships" and "civil unions". Gay people are being told that they are getting the same rights as a married couple.

However, when those couples approach employers to get medical coverage for their partners, they are being told "Our bylaws give medical coverage to spouses. Your partner is not your spouse, because you are not married."

Therefore, seperate names don't work.

besides, marriage is a holy union between 2 people, and to give a substitute and call it the same thing is just wrong. you can paint a horse black and white all you want, it will not become a zebra.

the way straight people are ruining the definition of marriage, with divorces and such, i don't understand why they get all huffed and puffed over same sex marriage, cause straight people are doing a real bang up job, huh? i've seen gay couples who love each other dearly and fight for marriage with such luster, that they will be together forever. and hey, when you fight for something with all your soul, and you win it, it makes it that much more special, and they won't go and piddy it off on a divorce.

I would vote, but I don't have voting right on it here 🙁

I didn't vote for or against, I'm not in a state that had a vote--but I sure would have voted against.

And I'm going to be busy on Saturday, unfortunately, but I'm def a supporter of yours, CD

I'm not in the USA so i can't help, but i don't see what's wrong when two people are in love together whatever their gender is.... gee how backwards the world goes sometimes 🙁

good luck still 🙂 cheer up

I'll be at the Rally in Pittsburgh, with my wife!!!

Thank you, Cellar, my brother in arms (and feet?) for getting the word out to those who might not know and would really like the opportunity to be there...

My hope, for EVERYONE, regardless of what plumbing they and their partner might have, is that they find someone to love them...and to be able to love in return...

If you find someone even half as amazing as my wife, well, you'll be just fine!!!
