While on vacation this past week, we checked out some used book stores for some books I've been looking for (part of the Carlos Casteneda series about the teachings of don Juan). While we only found one of the books I need to complete the set, we got an excellent bit of advice from the owner of one of the stores we hit every year. There is a web site www.abe.com that pools info. from several sources and acts as a go between to help folks get what they're looking for. It's an excellent resource. I found the other books that I was looking for. Maybe you can find what YOU'RE looking for?

Abebooks Is..

An excellent resource. I've used it frequently in the past.
I quick hint though, for many books the same sellers list their book on Abe and Amazon. In fact sometimes abe posts directly to Amazon.
Amazon lists by lowest to highest price. Abe does not. Also abe shipping tends to run a bit higher.
Still it's an excellent resource.

Castanada... I'd forgotten about him. I read a couple of his books about thirty years ago. Good stuff as I remember.

I still use his tip on how to maintain energy while walking long distances - because it works. As my study of ergonomics progressed, I learned there is a factual basis for what he postulated as a mystical trick (for lack of a better word) used by shamans.

Excellent resource, Ann...

I used abebooks to find a rare copy of Coleridge's "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" with illustrations by Gustav Dore.

I also read Castenada's series; I found his tales of visions and wisdom brought about through the use of hallucinogenics to be fascinating. (Not that I have any knowledge of such things, of course. :rotate: )

I may have some of the books you're looking for, Ann. Which ones do you still need?

From what I've seen so far, I think ABE has more OOP material available than Amazon does. I'm willing to pay a bit more for shipping on those books not listed on Amazon. Thanks for pointing that out, Mike.

Michele...I currently have...
The Teachings of don Juan: A Yaqi Way of Knowledge
A Seperate Reality: Further Conversations With don Juan
Tales of Power
Second Ring of Power
Fire From Within

I'm still looking for the following...
The Eagle's Gift
Journey to Ixtlan
Magical Passes
The Power of Silence
The Wheel of Time
Art of Dreaming
Active Side of Infiniity
The Wheel of Time

The First two are part of the original series that I've read and the others are newer ones (at least to me) that I haven't read yet. Most are available through ABE and Albris (http://www.alibris.com). But, if you have any of them, that's cool. Drop me a note when you have a chance.

I first got into Casteneda when his works were recommended by my anthropology professor in college. I'm still amazed by some of what he experienced...and by how things in Juan's system of beliefs correlate with many other common faiths. (So many believe the same basic stuff and simply express it differently.)

In addition to these, I enjoy many other authors. What other authors do folks enjoy?

I'd love to get my hands on a first ed. hardcover copy of "The Chosen", by Chaim Potok.

It's publishers did a re-issue of the original 1967 publication aboot 10 years back. Sadly, I missed that one too.

:blaugh: How lame can you get, eh? :blaugh:

Cheers.😀

Ann I Know..

Which is why I use both amazon and abebooks.
I also use some websites based out of England. Lots of times you can get books cheaper from over there, even including shipping. Usually they arrive within 10 days.

Another good avenue is ebay. I got two excellent books via ebay, for less than half of what they were asking on amazon or abe. The trick with ebay is you have to wait till the last minute to bid, otherwise you'll end up jacking up the price too soon.

I just got an excellent Jutland miniature game via ebay. All weekend I've been refighting the Battle Of Jutland in my living room!

(Except this afternoon when I was tickling a young lady named Tawney, woohoo)
