for those comtemplating a DVD player

Ever since I got my DVD player that can't play mp3s for $399, I've regretted it 🙁

Knowing "Rip-Off Britain" as I do Brian, that same DVD will probably cost £250 over here.😡 :Grrr: :disgust: :sowrong: :atom: :atom: :atom:

i hope this encouarges some people to move over to dvd and drop their cynicism about the tib's latest (good) decision. 🙂

I'm sure it will CM. Personally though I know I'd order about 4 of them if they re-instated some of the 30 or so titles they've cancelled in the past.

DVDs are cool, the problem is that there are still a lot of movies that aren't available on DVD 🙁

i have a dvd player

and i still prefer my vhs.
the only good thing about dvds is they extra stuff they put on them. like the out takes. other wise, i like the simple vhs more.

I'd have to agree with you totally there Steve. VHS gives me a fewer problems than DVD's do. Also I'd have thought they'd have been cheaper to put out.😕 Ho-hum, such is life.

I still have my VCR for recording and playing VHS. Until all movies are available on DVD and DVD recorders become cheap and practical, VCRs will be needed. DVDs aren't really much different unless you have a good home-theater system. What sucks is that most movies on VHS aren't in letterbox format🙁

oh god i hate letter box!

unless you have a wide screen t.v., it's waste of your watching.
i have a dvd player that lets me switch letter box to standarn. i feel so cheated when i look at my 56" t.v. and 6" at the top and bottom are blank! if i wanted a 44inch screen i would have bought it!

Good point, Steve! I only meant that I like to see the movie in its entirety and not cut off at the sides, even if the viewing area is smaller🙂

Has anyone heard if RT's DVD's will work on a PS2 (with Region X card) yet?

Or does TIB need to send me one to find out, only as a test so he can sell them to the rest of us you understand. 😉

DVD

Not that I'm biased for DVDs (since I work with them all day), but DVDs are far better overall than VHS.

Yes there are compatibility issues, and always will be without a true standard.

TIB, thanks for the cheap DVD player but here is my note on the subject "You get what you pay for." Typically the cheaper players have a lot of problems in the long run on playing DVDs. Too many customers email or call us about problems and most of the time it is because the player is a piece of crap! Also go with a known brand name, you'll thank yourself in the long run.

All players have quirks, for example "Atlantis" won't play on my RCA player without going through hoops.

I highly recommend visiting the website www.dvddemystified.com for a good amount of FAQs. There are also a number of sites which reveal Easter Eggs.

TIB - I highly recommend finding someone who can help you program Easter Eggs on your DVDs. I think a tickling scene, or TIB doing the Macarena before a bound ticklee (just kidding) would be a riot for us fans to find!
