Not to start a war or anythnig, but if they changed the name of French fries and French toast, why not French dressing? Or French bread?

i'm sure thats coming soon...i mean restaurant owners are throwing away alot of money to dump the wine and champagne from france down the drain...so either they'll rename those or dump them too

I know I posted this in another thread on here, but it's relevant in this thread, too. Thus, I repeat:

The Statue of Liberty was a gift from France. Why hasn't anyone suggested demolishing it, huh? "Freedom Fries" and "Freedom Toast" just demonstrate how pretentious and arrogant we've gotten.

Let's not forget French-cut green beans, and even French's Mustard (which is every bit as French as french fries). And what about French horns, French curves, French bulldogs, and French ticklers? Does the Lincoln Memorial need to be changed to remove the name of its sculptor, Daniel Chester French?

What about the other countries that aren't falling in line with the chimp in the White House? Do we also need to rename German chocolate cake, Belgian waffles, Russian dressing, Brussels sprouts? If turkey becomes forbidden, what do we serve at Thanksgiving?

But hey, if this is what some people like to occupy their time with, more power to them. Anything to keep them from doing real damage elsewhere.

Gotta go along with Maverick..are we so high and mighty that we remove the word "french" from things and bash the French people just because their government disagrees about going to war.....what have we become.........

Finally a thread about the French that I agree with! 🙂 Personally, I just call 'em fries and toast. 😀

we had the idea first

then the french gave us the statue, not the other way around!
but then french fries, and french toast as we know them were not from france. and in france, they don't claime to be the originators of "french kissing".
just terms, and if folks want to change how they say things? that's their business.

Orwell anyone?

Those who have read George Orwell's "1984" will probably remember "Newspeak". No parallels here?

Oh, by the way: During WW2, the 'hamburger' was called 'Salisbury steak' (some still call it that way), because Hamburg is a German city... 🙄

And also the Frankfurter was re-named the Hot Dog.

Changing the name of foods is silly. Did it help the Allies to win World War I because sauerkraut and frankfurters were called victory cabbage and hot dogs? I don't think so. And I don't think that Chiraq (misspelled intentionally) much cares what we call a fried potato.

For those who seriously don't like the French government's policies, boycotting French products will have an effect, if enough people do it. There is plenty of good wine made in California, Oregon, Spain, and Australia, just to name a few such places.

I like Aussie wine the best. I was in Sydney a few years back and had the chance to go to Hunter Valley, which was hearlded as the Napa Valley of the southern hemisphere

Very good wine, down there.

the french have been doing the same thing for years!

a law was passed many years ago declaring that no english words could be used in an advertisment. that's what prompted the changing of mcdonalds products. quarter pounder became a royal w/cheese. no forgien words can be used there, either they have to be translated to french, or changed. so we are not so cutting edge with this action.
i never liked french wine anyway, too much like vinager to me. i prefer the sweeter italian, and american wines.

With food, as long as it tastes good, I don't care what its called. But, they have a right to name it whatever they want.

I have to admit, there ain't nothing like a good bowl Azirbijan-onion soup ...... the place down the street from me sold the best Nazi fries, but they closed and became a Starbucks..... I miss Battlestar Galactica.

In case anyone is of a mind to boycott,www. warroom.com has a list of French and German companies and products for your consideration.

Right now,a bill is going through the PA senate to have the PA liquor control board stop buying French wines. The PA LCB is the single largest purchaser of liquor in the US. This is because we still have the state store system, and the large majority of liquor is sold through these stores.

While I support that notion, in theory, I don't legally think it will hold water, since it infringes on the Constitutional rights of free choice.

Youve gotta be kidding. 🙄 :sowrong:

It's no joke.

As far as legality,we'll have to see. Nobody is telling anyone they can't buy French wine.If the bill becomes law,all it will say is that the PA LCB won't buy or sell it.There are some private stores in PA,as well as neighboring states.

It seems to me, that this is a direct contrast to the article in the Constitution that promises "freedom of choice".

This may be, but as pointed out on The Daily Show on Comedy Central, we can nullify fragments of the constitution by using the legal maneuver of adding the word "Schmonstitution". 😀
