I had to post this in the main forum, as I'd appreciate feedback.
As I've posted in the past, since 1999, I have been a dedicated viewer of WPVI's newscast in Philadelphia, watching their anchor, Jim Gardner, every night at 11, sometimes at 6, and occasionally watching their morning news shows as well.
My friend Barney, who lives in my building, but who has been my friend for 20 years, since college, feels that I should "Get over" my dedication to Jim Gardner and WPVI, since I'm now a resident of NY.
I personally dont understand this thinking. A few things come to mind. One, I enjoy Jim Gardner and WPVI's newscasts. Two, with all the traumatic events in my life this year, the illness and passing of my mom, the move back to NY, reconnecting with my father, and my difficult relationship with him, I feel that I enjoy Jim Gardner and WPVI, because it is something familiar, that makes me happy, in a year when I've had so much sorrow and difficulty. It doesnt cost anything for me to watch Gardner. He comes to me free from his station website, on my computer, and relaxes me. As I've posted, I've been an Atlanta Braves fan for 30 years, even though I've always lived in the NY area, and in PA. I view Jim Gardner as simply the same thing as being a fan of an out of town baseball team.
As I've posted before, I'm very grateful to Jeff for finding me the link to WPVI's newscasts. I have it saved on all my browsers.
So, any opinion here? Jim Gardner isnt gambling, a drug, or a drink. Is my friend right? Or..is Gardner just a harmless form of entertainment..as something familiar, when so much else has changed?
Thanks.
Mitch
