Friendship Requests Freezing My Computer

I have a very odd problem lately. If someone sends me a friendship request, and I try to click it on to approve it, it freezes my computer. This happened tonight when someone tried to become friends with me, and I tried to approve the request. I also wanted to say that I can send and receive private messages with no problem.

Any ideas of what I might do to solve the problem?

Probably the javascript that pops up when you confirm the friendship. What browser, name and version, are you running?

Thanks for the reply, HDS. I'm using Internet Explorer, not sure what version, sorry.

You can find out by going to "Help" in the toolbar (next to "Tools") and selecting "About Internet Explorer". (It may just read "About") Especially with IE version number is critical.

I don't have access to that version myself but I can say it is an old one. So old, in fact, that the chances its age is affecting your experience is strong. I certainly can't force you to do so but I strongly urge you to upgrade to version seven of IE or, perhaps better and easier, migrate to a different browser. As your browser is most suspect I can't do much to diagnose if it is not removed as a possible cause.

If you'd like to do an upgrade/replacement I can give you direction on that.

Ticklemeee, are you checking off the name of the person to add? If you leave them unchecked you won't accept anything. Take a look at this explanation and see if it helps.

Mitchell, you can download IE7 one of two ways. One, run Microsoft Update and it should download and install it for you. You may wish to run it, select "Custom" when it gives you the choice of "Express" or "Custom", and then when the update list appears make certain to choose the IE7 update.

The other alternative is to download it from Microsoft as an installer. You can do this at the IE7 download page.

If you'd like to use a different browser, and I do recommend that over any version of IE, you will need to download and run an installer. Opera, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Apple Safari are the popular choices. I would recommend either Opera or Firefox out of that list.
