Yes. Ugh. 🙁Winter is here.
Thank you....
The park really successfully gives a piece of non-urban turf to the city that is a wonderful break from the concrete and steel of the rest of the place. This image could have easily come from a more rural place.
Nice shot.
Myriads
Well, whoever designed that park where it is, and how it is, was way smarter than anyone now. Just to think it's "in the middle of NYC" (well, maybe not, but who cares?).....and, I haven't even been to NYC.
Yes, it is. Today about half of the surface of The Pond was open water. 😀Is the ice melting?
Yes, the forecast is for lows below 20 by Thursday. It will probably freeze up by the end of this week.
Highs this weekend are supposed to be in the teens in NYC, with lows tomorrow night in the single digits.
It wouldn't surprise me to see the pond significantly frozen after temperatures that cold.
I will venture out and take a look tomorrow.![]()
Indeed, the overnight low is predicted to be 4[sup]o[/sup]F (actual temperature) with the wind chill at -16[sup]o[/sup]F.^Better bundle up good.^
We are going into another ice age, in geological time. That is, almost certainly North America will again be half covered by glaciers in about 40,000 to 80,000 years. AGW is nonsense; we have little power to change the climate, which is governed by astronomical cycles, some very long indeed. Why not don't and say you did....at those temps most likely frozen. Better safe than cold as the dickens (and you want to protect your dickens). Yes, it's of interest, but not overly important, unless you believe we're about to go into another ice age.
It will likely be 2/3 open water, 1/3 covered with ice by tomorrow, given the rain we had today. 😀Will the pond thaw by this weekend?
