The Pond in Central Park is almost entirely frozen over. At the extreme north end, extending under the bridge, you can see a small portion of open water where the ducks and geese can still swim.

What? It IS winter??? Dang, I need to pay attention a little more - I thought it was just my air conditioner running a bit overboard.......

This image highlights something that I have always loved deeply about Central Park, by looking at it, one would have no idea that one of the largest and highly populated cities was a mere few minutes in any direction.

The park really successfully gives a piece of non-urban turf to the city that is a wonderful break from the concrete and steel of the rest of the place. This image could have easily come from a more rural place.

Nice shot.

Thank you.
Yes, that is what I love about Central Park. By taking a walk there, you can forget for an hour that you are in a dense urban area, and just enjoy the trees, grass, rocks, and birds. 😀

Well, whoever designed that park where it is, and how it is, was way smarter than anyone now. Just to think it's "in the middle of NYC" (well, maybe not, but who cares?).....and, I haven't even been to NYC.

From my understanding, when much of New York was developing rapidly, the area in that is now Central Park was deemed unsuitable to build on, because of the soil or something. So someone decided "why not make a park out of it?" You're absolutely right, it was a smart idea.

Highs this weekend are supposed to be in the teens in NYC, with lows tomorrow night in the single digits.

It wouldn't surprise me to see the pond significantly frozen after temperatures that cold.

I will venture out and take a look tomorrow. :shivering:

Why not don't and say you did....at those temps most likely frozen. Better safe than cold as the dickens (and you want to protect your dickens). Yes, it's of interest, but not overly important, unless you believe we're about to go into another ice age.

We are going into another ice age, in geological time. That is, almost certainly North America will again be half covered by glaciers in about 40,000 to 80,000 years. AGW is nonsense; we have little power to change the climate, which is governed by astronomical cycles, some very long indeed.
