The next day was a truly frustrating one for Ross.
Ross wanted to be away from the office, to try and get some real work done.
Kayley was able to go to school, and about her usual day.
Suddenly, the building that Ross and Kayley lived in, was hit with an emergency 12 hour water shutdown!
Ross had two choices, either, go to the office, sit and listen to the phones ring all day, and get nothing done.
Or. stay in the apartment with no water, shower, hand washing and proper toilet.
Finally, Ross said "Fuck this" and texted Kayley that he was going to the office, even though he had told her he would not be going in that day. He explained about the water shut down, told her that he would be home between 7 and 8 , and asked her to please understand. Kayley just texted back. "Okay" and Ross put on jeans, a polo and sneakers, called an Uber and went to the office.
Ross walked into the office in a huff. "The damn apartment building has no water for 12 hours. I wanted to stay home to analyze this company for Tim, but I could not, so I just brought it with me. I will do whatever I can here, and figure it out. Chances are I'm staying until between 6 and 7. Anyone else can leave their usual time. Don't mind me. Ross is pissed off, but it has nothing to do with anyone else" Ross said.
"I will stay with you, Ross, if you need me" Vic offered.
Ross smiled. "Thanks, Vic. You are a great friend and an excellent contributor to this firm. Let me see what I get done" Ross said.
Ross was trying to read through Tim's company buy, when Tim showed up unexpectedly to the office.
"I should fire you for not dressing properly" Tim said, as a joke.
"Hi,. I'm trying to read through this company for you. I was not even going to come in today, but the damn building has a water shutdown for 12 hours. Unless you are going to penalize me due to my dress code, why dont you let me take you to lunch, I will read through this with you, and we will discuss it?" Ross offered.
"Sounds good" Tim said.
Ross and Tim went to lunch at Shun Lee After ordering drinks and lunch, Ross said.
"This is only from a skim over. Yet, it seems to me that this company is too high priced. seventy five million is unreasonable. If they dont lower the price anywhere between seven to ten mil, which is at least ten percent, I personally think you need to walk away, Tim. Unless they do something to "Sweeten the pot" like include a small profit sharing of some other deal they do to us, considering what kind of business they do, and how many companies like this they own" Ross said.
"Asking them to lower it ten percent sounds very reasonable. If they wont do that, and are fixated on seventy five mil, maybe we should walk away, but again, I dont know. I just make the products and buy the companies, you are the one who makes the financial decisions and the company buys for me: "Tim said.
"I promised myself, and Kayley that I was not going to go to OKC this week. She may literally kill me, but, I might need to go for 36 hours to do two investor shows on Thursday and Friday. I will be back Friday night late or early Saturday , so its not like I'm going to be missing any of the weekend anyway. Let me worry about that later. First to this for you" Ross said.
"Okay, so how do you want to handle it?" Tim asked.
The best case, let me look at it at home in peace over the weekend with OKC over with if that trip comes off. This way whether we sign investors or not, it will be quiet except for you, Fritz, Steve, or anything that Kayley and me do. As I always do, I want to think about this carefully before making any conference calls or meetings, and what price to tell you to even offer initially. The seven to ten million dollar discount is just a throw out. I want to make sure I really study this thoroughly with the amount of money involved and the situation" Ross said.
"Fine, then I will tell you what. Very simple. Please call them when you get back to the office. Tell them that you need until a week from Monday to analyze it and be ready for a conversation about price, both to be fair representation to me, and also due to an out of town business commitment for something else. They cant hold you here just the way I cant. OKC or no OKC, you need to have the time to read this proposal from them think it over, for us to discuss it, and to offer a counterproposal" Tim said.
Tim and Ross bumped fists in commiseration. "Perfect" Ross said.
When Ross and Tim finished lunch, Ross went back to the office, and called the other party.
"I just came back from lunch with Mister Tim Patrick. I need until one week from Monday to study this throughly, and then for us to engage in a detailed conversation about price. Could we make a meeting at either yours or my office, or a conference call with your company's reps, Mister Patrick and myself that day?" Ross asked.
"Fine, one week from Monday, noon, your office, you and Mister Patrick, and the reps from our company" The other party;s lawyer said.
"Just fine, see you then" Ross said, as he got off, and then texted the info to Tim.
Ross left the office at 530, hopped into the Uber, and arrived home at 630.
"Hi, Mister at home worker" Kayley teased as Ross kissed her
"You can blame the building for the damn 12 hour water shut down,. I was going to work at home until that hit. At least you got to miss eight or nine hours or it, being at school all day"
"Well, its on now, so take a shower, and then let's talk like a couple" Kayley said.
"Be right out" Ross said, throwing off his clothes, going into the shower, and then coming out.
"I met with Tim today on his new company buy" Ross began.
"Forget Tim. I know you, Ross C. When are or were you planning to go to OKC again? How you study whatever company Tim buys does not affect us because you do such either at your RossShell office or your den. The other thing, well.. " Kayley hinted.
"I told Fritz that I cant come down there for a week due to having to be up here to be with you. I'm trying to figure out if I can squeeze in an OKC trip between say, Thursday morning, and Friday night or early Saturday where I wont miss any of the weekend with us. Let me think about it" Ross said.
"Next week is my school break four days, so I dont care what you do. We could pack and go to LV, but you have your meeting about this company" Kayley said.
"I might be able to do both. Do OKC. come home for the weekend, study Tim's company, talk to the people Monday, then we leave for LV late Monday night or Tuesday morning, and I tell the other side if they want a second meeting or convo that I have to go out of town on business the rest of the week. If I do an oil or gas show I can do everything, and make everyone happy" Ross said.
Ross called Fritz. "Hi Partner. Question. Can we get together a 48 hour time frame for say two oil shows where I can get down there Thursday, and get out of there by early Saturday? Kayley has off from school next week and we want to get out of town, and I must be home on Monday to have a meeting with Tim with some people about a company. This way everyone is happy?" Ross offered.
"Ross, you own a third of this company. Steve and me will just tell any potential investors that our partner has to be in New York for other business from Saturday on, and cant come back all week after. Get your butt down here as early as you can on Thursday, and we do two or maybe three shows. You can leave Saturday, and then do your meeting with Tim, and go off with Miss Kayley" Fritz said.
"Thanks Partner" Ross said, hanging up.
"Okay, done. OKC from Thursday to Saturday morning, home for the weekend to finish this company study for Tim. Then after this meeting, you and me get the Hell out of town to LV" Ross said.
"Even though you will be busting your ass until next Monday, after that I can make sure you will chill out because you will be with me" Kayley said.
Ross texted the info to Tim about having to go to OKC for an investor meeting from Thursday to Saturday. Ross said he would be ready for the meeting on the potential company buy on Monday, and Tim said all was okay with that plan.
Ross truly had a lot on his plate in one week between the OKC trip, studying the company for Tim that weekend, and then the meeting with the other side for Tim'[s potential company buy.
Would all come off as planned, or would there be a "Fly in the ointment" ?
Those events remained to be seen.
