As Aunt Karen's funeral approached, Ross learned that Aunt Karen did not have a funeral plot.
Since Aunt Karen's only income at the time of her passing had been her Social Security check, Ross learned that both of his Aunts qualified for subsidy. for a joint plot
Obtaining the plot was terribly time consuming, and emotionally draining.
Finally, Ross was able to purchase the plot for his aunts, so that when Ross's Aunt R passed, Aunt Karen and Aunt R could and would be buried together.,
On the day of the funeral, Ross, Kayley, and Aunt R took an Uber to rural New Jersey for the burial of Aunt Karen.
The car got stuck in heavy traffic. The funeral was on a Friday, and the Rabbi who was performing the service, had a time constraint, because the Sabbath was that night. The Rabbi had to complete the service before sunset, according to Jewish law, and also because the Rabbi had to be back at the Temple which he was the head of, to perform the Temple's weekly Friday night service.
Finally, Ross, Kayley, Aunt R, and a friend of Aunt R, were able to meet up with the Rabbi at the cemetery for Aunt Karen's funeral.
The service which the Rabbi performed was a brief, feeling one.
Ross broke down crying once during the funeral, as did Aunt R. Ross's mother Shelley had been dead for almost eleven years at the time Aunt Karen had passed away , and Aunt Karen was the closest person who Ross had to a mother.
After the service, the four people who attended Aunt Karen's funeral went out to dinner, and then Ross and Kayley said goodbye to Aunt R and her friend, and took an Uber home to Queens.
Since it was Friday night, Ross had the weekend to rest, reflect, and recharge his batteries after what had been an emotionally draining week between Aunt Karen's passing and her funeral.
While Ross did not have to officially "Sit Shiva" the way that a Jewish person did after the death of a parent, because Aunt Karen was not Ross's mother, Ross felt like the loss of Aunt Karen, was almost like losing Ross;s mother Shelley all over again, and Aunt Karen's death was really hitting Ross hard.
Ross and Kayley decided to "lay low" over the weekend. While sex drive was not something one could predict, Ross figured that he would not feel like having sex for several days, and hinted such to Kayley. Kayley said that she understood, supported Ross, and gave Ross his space.
While Ross had worked lightly at home, and gone into the office for brief periods twice in the week after Aunt Karen passed, Ross did not make any major business moves in the week following Aunt Karen's passing.
Fritz and Steve respectfully gave Ross his space in the week after Aunt Karen's loss. Yet, they too hinted that after the funeral was over, Ross had mourned, and such, that it might be a good idea if Ross visited them "Not too long off"
Ross also was not feeling well. Ross's next Botox shot was not for almost a month following this whole scenario.
Luckily, Ross was able to track down his regular neurologist, and obtain pain meds to tide him over.
After Ross's mother Shelley had passed, and Ross had sat shiva for Shelley, Ross and Kayley had taken a trip to Atlantic City for a couple of days.
At that time, eleven years earlier, RossShell was about half the size it was currently, and Ross did not have the additional responsibility of being a partner in a major oil and gas company.
Ross was trying to calm down, but he was feeling heavy hearted, confused, and filled with emotion and grief.
Ross also thought that maybe he should not make any major business moves for a week or two, because Ross was not thinking very clearly, was not feeling well, and did not want to make a bad move which would cost him emotionally and financially down the road.
What would Ross actually do? Would the pain meds help to control Ross's pain until the Botox shot? What would Ross do once he got the shot? Would Ross decide to remain in New York for a time with Kayley, and just do work in the office, or would Ross immediately try to fly off to OKC to get away from New York, and try to put the whole emotional situation regarding Aunt Karen's passing and the funeral out of his mind.
Those things would be seen.
