Saw an article on cnn that the Australian Parliament has banned the use of the expression G'day to greet vistors. Talk about political correctness gone wild! I always though that the expression G'day was as much a part of Australia as Fosters beer and Bob's your uncle and barbie (barbacue). Any thoughts on this!

"Ya call that a knoife? THIS IS A KNOIFE!"
"thats not a knife thats just a spoon"
"Oh well, i see you played knoifey\spooney before!"

"Yes i'll have coffee"
"BEER it is"

What next? Will Ireland nab green beer or "Top of the morning!"???? Or even better..."Y'all" from all the Southern US states....

Just when you think politicians can't do anything even more idiotic, they prove us wrong....

ROFLMAO....that just goes to show you how boring the Australian Parliments' job must really be if THATS their top priority....

The prime minister overturned the ruling so as of Monday the security guards can go back to saying mate...let's hear it fo PM Dundee 😉

I would think that most tourists would enjoy hearing authentic Australian slang (I know I would), so I can't imagine why Parliament would have barred its use.

this means nothing, really, like jaywalking in america, it's still a law, but who enforces it? they gonna have g'day police on patrol.

will america ban the use of "give me yo f***ing cash!" to great visitors?

in fact, i'll feel kinda insulted not hearing g'day.

Roffle, amen to that. XD

Political Correctness gone wild!

I heard they no longer want Aussies to use the term "mate" either! I guess if you say "G'day mate!" they'll haul you off to jail, huh?

if i ever vacation there, that's all i'm gonna say, hell, that's the whole experience! let em cart me off to the funny farm shouting G'day and Mate.

G'day was not banned just to Clarify the addressing of a vistor as mate by parlimentary security was...for one week then it was discovered by the PM and the parliment and the Head of Security was told to reinstate the term just clarifying

It was all a bit of a storm in a teacup (I live in Canberra so I've been hearing about this all week). What happened was that a memo was put out to staff at Parliament House following a couple of complaints, telling them to use "appropriate formality" when addressing visitors and MPs, and gave as one of a number of examples not addressing people as "mate". As soon as the media got hold of it it was quickly overturned, and probably would have been anyway.
