One of the most popular comic series in the mid 90's was Wildstorm's Gen 13. I only recently stumbled across it in any detail and have since come to absolutely love it. That's what I get for not paying attention in the 90's I guess. 🙂

Below are Fairchild, Rainmaker, Freefall and a group shot of chibi goodness featuring all three. Enjoy!

Those are awesome, kiddo! I'm really liking the third one. Freefall definitely has a sense of style that I can admire. 😉 And the chibiness is made of pure win. It's a great set, dude. n_n

Those are very adorable, but just out of curiousity what is wildstorm?

Well you did my fav Gen13 girl up nicely. That being Roxy. Sarah is my second followed by Kat.

And Wildstorm, uh not sound too rude but it's a Comic Company DOY. It started off with Jim Lee and a I forget who else as a branch of Image Comics then DC Bought them out and now Jim Lee runs it.

Thanks everyone! 🙂

Wildstorm Comics: A History

Wildstorm got started circa early-mid 90's under the banner of Jim Lee and Brandon Choi who brought us such series as Gen 13 and WildCATS. Wildstorm bonded together with a number of other indie publishers to form Image comics. This continued until DC comics bought Wildstorm, where Lee and Choi currently head up all publication.

Fun Fact: An animated movie of Gen 13 was made in 1998 when Wildstorm was still part of Image. Buena Vista (owned by Disney) did the production but then Wildstorm got bought by DC, who has an exclusive animation contract with Warner Bros. To avoid a legal battle, the movie was never released in North America. It had limited release in Australia and Europe. 🙂

adorable lol. I'll admit my exposure to DC comics has been very limited; I was basically raised on Marvel Comics... should really look into Gen 13.

I'll warn yah now, Gen13 is a series that will be hard to get. Rare issues now of the old series and well pricey too. All the different #1 covers of the Ongoing series (there's one I would hunt for with Roxy on the cover) then you need to find the original Mini that started it all.

You can actually get the original series in a single volume novel now alongside many back issues in similar volumes. Highly recommended.

Sorry to bump, bt i figured i'd just add a little. Personally, i started collecting Gen 13 around issue 8 and continued till issue...um, maybe 40 or 50, i can't remember off the top of my head. It was a decent series, but i think one of the things that has turned me off western comics these days is the fact that a series will continue forever. Look at series such as superman, or Batman, or X-men, or Spider-man. I think they are great, but IMO, even the best things have to come to an end, and i can see that when i turn 99, there will still be superman, batmen, etc comics being published. Because they are a cash cow. Anyway, enough of my rambling. First, snail shell, great art. Second, for those interested in collecting the comics,. i suggest E-bay, as i've seen many comics of the series on sale there.
