Greetings all

I would like to start dabaling in Poser work myself Please forgive me if the questions I ask sound ignorant😛 Anyway what kind of costs are we talking about with Poser programs? How hard is it to manipulate the characters?

Is it time consuming? I ask because I am an over the road truck driver and time can be precious to me Would I be able to start something and save where I left off and restart later?

Also would I be better off with an external mouse? Or would the one I have on my laptop PC be good enough?

I am also wondering if I could get comic book characters like heroinnes and male/female villians? Or even a program with females in military uniforms

I would really like to give this a try I have imagination but no drawing skills

Thanks in advance for any and all help

Poser work

Hi, there are several Poser artists on this forum that can offer insight and tips/tricks. Some thoughts I have on your questions are:
As for initial price, Poser 4 or Poser 5 are around $200 (Give or Take). Check with Curious Labs for current prices, overall, it isn't too expensive compared to other 3D Programs.
Morphing your characters is the fun and challenge of Poser. You can save your work and go back to it later.
As for time you spend, that depends. You can spend a great deal of time on it if you choose (once your a Poser addict it is a time hog). But, ofcourse, you can spend a lot or a little depending on what you are working on. I've never tried working off a laptop with Poser. I imagine you could, but Poser eats up a lot of processor power and ram, so unless you have a fairly hefty laptop, a desk top is best.
As far a character's and models, you can morph your own from the base (built in defaut models) or look towards other 3rd party models. There are many resources out there: Renderosity, DAZ, Runtime DNA, to name a few. You may want to visit some of these sites, Renderosity specifically for there galleries, and DAZ for their models to see what strikes you and what may interest you.
The rest is up to your imagination, patience, and persistance.
Good luck to you and, if you do decide to do some Poser work, I look forward to seeing it.

If you want to try out something like Poser for free then download the Daz Studio Beta and Egyptian content from www.daz3d.com.

I've tried it out and apart from the rendering speed (and it could be my video card driver) it was very stable.
I ran it on a Duron 850 with 256Mb ram and it was workable. I find I have to keep to 3 figures or less or shut all other programs down to get Poser/Studio to respond the way I like it.

It's a bit tricky to start with getting the hang of posing characters - work through the tutorails is the best way. It's quite easy to make unrealistic poses but if you look at how your arms and legs work you should get the idea.

Time consuming - for me very. You are allways seeing something "not quite right"
and have to fiddle. For me it's pretty much replaced watching TV (and with most of the stuff on it's more entertaining) but I would say it's very time consuming.

There are plenty of comic charagters available - try

here
for starters.

All the best

Thanks for the replies I may add some more memory to my laptop Hopefully that will help out Or maybe just buy a used laptop for using poser only
