When Ross was riding to the office in the Uber on Monday morning, he tried to focus his thoughts on confidence, and not apprehension.
When Ross got to the office, he said to Vic
"As you can see, I'm back. I know that John and I are supposed to work on this together, and that Alan Hell expects it to all come from me. The fact is , Vic, that Alan is such an important client to RFS Energy, and to Fritz, Steve, and I, that I cannot take a chance on screwing this up. I'm going to call a meeting in the conference room to discuss this" Ross said.
"I will gather whoever is here now" Vic said.
"Thanks, Vic" Ross replied.
After Vic had gathered as many people as possible into the conference room, Ross started talking.
"Thanks to everyone who is gathered here. I will come right to the point. Most if not all of you know that an attorney named Alan Hell is an extremely important investor in RFS Energy, the company I am partners with Fritz and Steve in based in Oklahoma City. We have an excellent business and investor relationship with Mister Hell and his contacts. Well, last week, Mister Hell threw old Ross C a curveball as they say. Mister Hell wants yours truly, and our company, to reorganize his marketing campaign for his law firm to bring in more business. John is already working on Tim Patrick's account, and John, I want to say in front of everyone that you are doing a fine job. The fact of the matter is, that what Mister Hell is asking for, cannot be handled by John, or maybe not even John and me together. The fact is, that except for Tim Patrick, in regard to my meeting with Tim, My focus lately has been more on RFS Energy and Oklahoma City than in this office, which I take responsibility for. The other fact is, that if something gets messed up for Tim, or if Ross screws something up, I can take Tim out to lunch or dinner, and we can discuss it and solve it, because he is my close friend. Alan is a wonderful human being. Fritz, Steve and I get along very, very well with Alan and his partners in his major law firm, but.. I cannot screw this project he asked me to do up, or I will pay dearly, and so will Fritz, Steve, and RFS Energy. I need help, and I need John and I to work on this, and maybe for us to work as a team. If there is some small client or something that I can do myself quickly,. I will take responsibility. What I'm trying to say is, I promised Alan Hell a project in 30 days, if not finished, then definitely a major first draft that only needs minor changes, so, from today on, that is the focus of this office. John and I will do it, and if we need help, I ask that people please be ready to help on short notice" Ross said.
Everyone nodded their heads.
"Okay, meeting adjourned. John, please come into my office, I would like us to talk" Ross said.
"Of course, Ross" John said.
Ross and John went into Ross's office, and Ross handed John a copy of some papers on Ross's desk.
"Between you and I, and not to leave this office, Victor and I were here for several hours on Saturday, discussing things , and with me working on a very first draft for Alan Hell. I bave a copy, and this is your copy. Please, look it over, give me some thoughts, and this is your most important project to be working on until it gets done and out the door. Dont worry about Tim. I have known the man for so many years, and know his work and his habits like the back of my hand, that I will at least do fifty percent of his monthly campaign. In fact, I plan to take him to lunch in the next couple of days to tell him so. We will do his work as we always do every month, but Alan Hell takes priority, okay?" Ross said.
"Yes, Ross, of course" John said.
That day, Ross spent time studying past campaigns of people who wanted to increase their business. He was making, slow but steady progress on what he thought Alan Hell would approve of.
Ross left the office at 6, and was home in an Uber at 7.
"Good Evening, teacher. See, I called a meeting, and I;m busting my ass with John on Alan Hell's work. I'm going to do Timothy's work myself this month, but we both know I can do that with my eyes closed so to speak. I promise you, and I promise myself, no OKC trips until Alan's work is done, okay, approve?" Ross said.
"Yes, Mister Prudent" Kayley said, kissing Ross.
Ross spent that week hard at work on Alan Hell's campaign request.
Ross also took time for lunch with Tim.
"This is unusual,. You taking me to lunch. What gives, best friend?" Tim said, a bit surprised.
"What gives is that you are looking at the man who will be doing your work this month, and I need a nice, easy monthly campaign this month. What gives is that Mister Alan Hell, our most important client in RFS Energy, wants to reorganize his marketing campaign for his law firm to bring in more business. I have thirty days. Thus, no OKC Trips, and no Bullshit, except maybe an overnight or two nights over a weekend in AC with Kayley. I must do this for Mister Hell, and I must do it right, or else" Ross said.
"Okay, Good Luck. I will tell you what. To help you out since you will be doing my work yourself, and not running away, I will tell my VP;'s to give you a very quick campaign this month that will not take you long at all. I will tell them that Ross is going out of town to a marketing convention. Hell, I dont care what I tell them. My point is, I am going to do my part to make your life easier, not harder , okay?" Tim said.
Ross bumped fists with Tim. "That is all music to my ears, and just what I needed to hear" Ross said.
As the week went along, Fritz called Ross.
"How is life, Mister Confined to the Big Apple?" Fritz joked.
"I miss you guys, but we all know why I have to do this" Ross said.
"I know. Steve and I want to do one deal at a far away field. You dont have to sit out. All this requires is not even your physical presence. Just a one to two hour meeting via Zoom, think you can handle that?" Fritz said.
"But of course, set it up" Ross said.
That day, Ross, Fritz, and Steve did a Zoom meeting with fifty potential investors for the oil and gas. Ross felt okay about that, since he had left OKC early the week before. Another such meeting was scheduled for the next day.
That weekend, Ross and Kayley were to go to AC for the weekend.
It was a very productive week for Ross on Alan Hell's project. Between Ross and John, Ross estimated that the project was "At least a third done" , and it had only been one week that Ross had been hard at work on it. Ross had another 21 to 28 days to finish the project and give it to Mister Hell.
That Saturday morning, Kayley and Ross climbed into an Uber to head to AC until early Monday morning, at which point, Ross would come home, change, and go into the office. Kayley had a Monday holiday that day, so she would be off.
So far, it looked like Ross had found the right road on what might be the most important project in RossShell's company's history, because of how important Alan Hell was to Ross, Fritz, and Steve with the oil and gas.
Would things continue on the right track to allow Ross to finish the project for Alan Hell, get his approval, and for all to be good, or would unexpected problems develop?
That would all be seen.
When Ross got to the office, he said to Vic
