Well my friends, it's October. For many of us, it's the time to think of Halloween. For this lurker, it's time to break his unofficial vow of silence. And I decided there was no better way than to do it with a little research.

I must admit, I do enjoy dabbling in the paranormal, at least from a research perspective. I'm a mixture of skepticism and curiosity. Let's just say that I want to believe. Never had a ghostly experience myself, and I probably never will.

But I digress. I got a wierd idea. There are so many strange phenomenas associated with hauntings (Orbs, EVP, Shadows, sudden temperture changes, emotional responses. My fellow paranomal enthusists out there probably know what I'm talking about), and I started thinking. Why not tickling? I mean, come on. Even us 'lers and 'lees have to pass on sometime. So I did my research, and it yielded some fruit. Note that for a lot of these links, you may have to do some scrolling to find the articles, so I have included a brief summary underneath each link.

Marshall House, Savannah Georgia. Scroll down to the article and you'll find a letter from a guest who had awoken in the middle of the night to the sensation of someone tickling her feet. When she had questioned the staff in the building, she was told the tale of a former guest who had a similar experience.

Red Lion Pub. Reports of a visitor spending some time alone in a room and feeling a tickling sensation on her head.

The Andrew Jackson Hotel. Formerly a boarding school for young boys. Guests report numerous paranormal activites (Mysterious footsteps, faucets turning on by themselves), including many reports of female guests having their feet tickled in the night, sometimes accompanied by apparations of young boys.

The Swan Inn. Reports of a rather melancholy ghost have been reported. A nun staying overnight said that she had been woken up when the ghost began tickling her.

Ellcot City. A local health and wellness center hosts yoga classes. Students have occasionally reported ghostly ticklings.

The Shoe Factory Shop in Grimsby. Visitors have reported seeing shadoy apparitions. Visitors and tenants in the apartments above have reported the sensation of having their feet tickled (Wow, Lots of ghosts with a penchant for the lower appendages, it seems!)

Take from it what you will, but it's a clipping from a site where people submit their own ghostly experiences. This one concerns a woman having ghostly dreams, one of which involves phantoms tickling her feet. It's later reported to her that the hotel she was staying at was haunted.

Argh, can't locate it in this one offhand, but I remembered that there's something in there about a theater house being haunted by the ghost of a former actress, who pokes at and tickles some of the theater patrons.

Carnton Plantation Cemetary. Supposedly if you walk down a specific row, there are twin ghosts who are said to grab at your ankles and tickle you.

Bah, Had trouble locating it, but I believe its just another site that mentions the same cemetary linked to above.

Nine Mile Bridge. Legend says that some slave children had drowned at the bridge. It's also said that if you take your shoes off and dangle them from the bridge, the ghosts of the drowned children will tickle your feet.

So, Skeptic, Believer, or just an amused reader, I hope you enjoyed this piece. Have a safe rest of Oktoberfest, and have a good Halloween. Peace.

Ghosts... and tickling...

It's like all my best fantasies being true. I must visit all these places!

These definitely sound like fun places to visit. I'll admit I've always had a fascination with the paranormal, and this only increases it🙂

THESE are the kind of ghosts I could get used to. Just to feel it, it would be so creepy, but awesome at the same time! Nice reasearch, never really thought of this before.

Can anyone say "roadtrip"? 😛

Never thought of ghostly tickles, before (rather, more so ghostly chokings and legless spirits luring you off high cliffs, here in Hawaii... o.o;; ). Definitely gonna have to do some research on this subject...'specially with spooky-day coming up soon...

hmm what about those unexplained itches that happen out of the blue? like your foot all of a sudden tickling..i don't mean just a little itch...i mean a tickling like something is tickling it..i've experienced that..could my house be haunted by a tickle ghost? or a mischievous spirit? mm it's old enough..

interesting thread...i'll have to read those links...

I'd blame brownies, Mel. They're playin' tricks on ya.

Whew. Thanks for the kind comments, guys. This was just a preliminary bout of researching with Google. It was a bit interesting scraping together those bits and pieces, so if anyone has anymore to contribute, it would be well appreciated.

Ya know, the more scientific approach to ghosties say that spirits often does things to electromagnetic fields and such (thus the usage of EMF detectors and the like), and if you think about it, the way we humans feel things is through electric signals sent through the peripheral nervous system in our bodies when we touch things (or when things touch us), so...maybe there can be a connection made with that? I mean, if that's true, and if ghosts really do exist, then it's very plausible that they can tickle living people. Hmm...

hon you are mixing me up with you lol...must be those brownies again..or that icky version of tuna salad you made..:ggrin:

i actually don't believe in ghosts..but did you know that no ghost has ever harmed a human being? the human harms themself with the fright etc..even a ghost that tickled would be scary to me..and this thread reminds me of Shadowtklr's fantastic Asylum Seven story...filled with ghosts..a spooky hospital etc...he hasn't posted it here, but he has an archive over on the TMF..give it a read..it's super spooky...and with a surprise ending...yes shameless plug on my part lol..

Only ghost I recognize as a real ghost is my late grandpa... he just won't get out of my tv... turning it on during night and vice versa during the day. It is driving me nuts!

^ yikes...what does he want????

i quit believing in ghosts when dad died and never came back to visit me..

i'm very interested in paranormal, but i've never had an encounter..if i did it'd scare the crap out of me. i do wonder though, if somewhere there's a ghost just like us who goes around tickling..he'd certainly get his revenge on someone real good 🙂

one ghost thing i don''t understand is how come demonic/excorisism like things only happen to christians or catholics? everytime you see something on tv they have to call the priest so he can bless the house..so what would happen if it happened to a jew? 😛

I've seen shows where hauntings happen, and rather than calling a priest, they call a Medium or a spiritualist. I guess since Ghostbusters don't actually exist, people have to find another answer to the question "Who you gonna call?"

As for possession, You do bring up a good point. I've never heard of an Athiest being possessed by a demon. I guess it's a matter of believing?

Pseudoscience, speculation, and religion aside, thanks a bunch for helping this topic stay afloat everyone. Although, back on the topic of Pseudoscience, speculation, and religion, I do enjoy hearing everyone's take on the topic (As well as the possibility that one of us might come back post mortem for a little bit of fun)

Well glade i'm not the only one, I've had dreams where i am getting tickled and as i begin to wake up and become fully concious it still feels like i'm being tickled. Most of the time once i openn my eyes the sensation stops and i see no one there. But a few times then sensations didn't stop and i open my eyes, saw no one but felt something tickling me mad. One time i felt something tickling me for around 5 mins straight after i woke up.

Having helped cast one out before, it would be similar to how we did it and missionary friends have told me in their experience. Takes much prayer, LOTS of prayer, not just a mere ceremonial prayer or sprinkling of holy water, from what I have seen and been told first hand. It's not a simple process, esp. if the victim is a non-believer.

Lots of prayers... and not just holy water... damn. What do you people do when vampires attack 😀
Sprinkle them or pray for their souls 🙂

When they attack, I close the book or turn off the movie. Then they stop attacking.:ayyy:
