Too bad, in one sense - he'd be the easiest Democrat to beat in 2004. He was easily the least attractive presidential candidate since Richard Nixon. Even with incumbency and good times on his side, he couldn't win.

And please, spare me the whining about getting more popular votes. The only votes that count are electoral votes, like it says in the Constitution, and 5 votes from the Supremes, who awarded Florida's to Bush and put him over the top.

As far as popular votes go. he got the malority only of those that were actually counted...hundreds of thousands of absentee ballots were thrown out in that election....go figure.....

I only hope that Joe Lieberman stays out of it..bad enough we have to put up with him in Connecticut..

I agree with Venray -- remember that Lieberman was a HUGE advocate of Internet censorship as well as being unable to recognize the Jeffersonian "wall of seperation" between Church and State. Even the Jewish Anti-Defamation League criticised Lieberman for making everything into a religious issue. This guy would be a serious danger to free speech if he were elected President.

Ray and Val, I don't like Lieberman either, nor any of the other Democratic candidates. I certainly don't want Bush re-elected, but unless the economy worsens, I don't see how he can lose. And if he's waging a war against Iraq, forget it! 😛

I feel sorry for Gore, but he blew it in 2000. 😡

Other Parties...

what are the other parties in the US, and do they have a chance in any states? We never get to hear about them down here, so I'd be interested to find out. In Australia, the Greens now have 10% of the total popular vote, up from about .5% a couple of decades ago. We've also got redneck 'he looks different from me' parties, and they're gaining too. Still, makes it more interesting than Liberal/National vs. Labor.

There's the Green Party (very liberal), the Reform Party (independent), and the Libertarian Party (fiscally conservative, socially moderate), among others. Third parties have won in a few elections (most notably Jesse Ventura running as a Reform candidate and becoming governor of Minnesota), but they will never have a real chance unless the two-party system is changed drastically, and I don't think that'll happen anytime soon.

Thank you amk for saying what few on the left have said. Gore blew it. He had the incumbency and could have had the support of Clinton who was still immensely popular but he screwed up.

MistressValerie thanks for pointing out those things about Lieberman I did not know that. Of course I wouldn't have voted for him anyway but know I really don't want to see him elected.

Yeah thats what I always figured. How could Gore have one of the most popular people on his side and not use him. Now this is a man people should be calling dumb.
