My grandmother's died 35 years ago and her birthday is coming up. It makes me a little melancholy as I think back.
We used to take walks around a little park near her house. She would point out birds I never would have seen and identify them for me. Grams would pick me up in her big old Buick and take me out for pizza and root beer.
I wish we had had more time together. I was so young when she died. I wish she was alive today because she had such a simple approach to my problems and all of life.
When I was twelve, Grams gave me one piece of advice that I will never forget. We were sitting in that little park, watching other children playing on a beautiful spring day. Grams told me. "Someday Billy, you'll find a wonderful young lady you will love and marry."
"And son, try to remember," she said. "Be sure you marry a woman with small hands."
"How come, Grandma?", I asked her.
I can still hear her soothing little voice explaining, "Makes your pecker look bigger."
It still brings a tear to my eye.
