Actor and dancer Gregory Hines, who tap-danced his way to fame in movies like "The Cotton Club" and "White Nights," has died of cancer, aged 57.
Hines, who won a Tony award for best actor in the musical "Jelly's Last Jam," was born in New York and learned to tap-dance at the age of three.
Hines also had roles in "Deal of the Century," and worked with actor Billy Crystal in the crime film "Running Scared."
Other movies in which he starred included "Eve of Destruction," "A Rage in Harlem" and "Renaissance Man."
Hines also directed the film "Bleeding Hearts," which tells the story of a white male school teacher who falls in love with one of his black female students.
