Hacha question??

Is it possible to fool the hacha program by splitting a large file, and then leaving out some parts, but making sure that the numbering is in sequence. Or will this wreck the whole file?

It depends on the program used to play the ultimate joined file. Most programs (such as Windows Media Player) do a checksum on the file (especially if it's binary like video files) when it is opened to verify integrity, and will bark if the checksum does not match what it calculates. You can cheat on MPG's, which are much more forgiving and whack out a good piece of the file in the middle, but my guess is (although I haven't tried it) an *.rm or *.wmv would not work.

Try it and see what you get.

Regards,

TK

If you want to leave out some parts of a clip, I think the most suitable solution would be some video editing software.
I'm almost sure that hacha uses checksums just like every other splitting software does.

Thats what I feared. I have tried using Windows Movie Maker to shorten an .rm clip, but the result was a bigger file than the original, and I have no other program to use.

Does Windows Movie Maker read .rm files? I never managed to do it, how do you do that?

You can cutoff .rm files. They still will play until the cutoff point, but you can't scroll around in the file anymore.

You have to force it to. Right-click on the file and go to "Open With." Find Windows Media Player in the list and select it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't (Alternatively, you can change what program .rm files open with by default in "Folder Options," located in your Control Panel.).

That is how you can play .rm files with Windows Media Player.

ericmartin mentioned using Windows Movie Maker to edit .rm files. I would really like to know how that works!

I would be highly interested in being able to edit .rm files with Windows Movie Maker. When I download a Windows media clip, I often edit out the less-interesting parts and leave a short clip of just the good stuff, set to repeat play. Now that repeat-play is available on the free version of Real Player, such editing (video "mastering"? 😉 ) would come in handy (pun intended).

Sorry, you're dealing with a real dumbass here. They are actually mpegs - I just assumed they were rms because they played on my realplayer. I tried using WMM on a ram and it wouldn't take it. (hides head in shame, shuffles uneasily)
But I have at least learnet something.

Too bad! I just started to hope I had missed something.

Same as MistressValerie I would really like to be able to edit .rm files. So if there is anyone who can point to a free tool for editing .rm files, feel invited to post it here!

Don't mind me, I seem to have lost the ability to read. 😛 Sorry about that.

I just did a search, and from what I can see, one does exist, but it is in Chinese or Japanese.

I have searched in vain for a free tool that can edit .rm files. There was a project called "Cuisine," an open-source program in development that was supposed to be .rm-capable, but the website seems to have been abandoned and I've been unable to get any further information on it.
