You guys all make me laugh XD Happy New Year all! Does anybody have any New Year traditions? For all that we're a very tradition-laden house (have to watch certain movies around Christmas, etc), we have very little in the way of New Years ones. How about you guys?

It's funny you should ask that coz I was thinking about the happy memories of my Nana who recently passed away and she always carried out a New Years Eve tradition. She wasn't able to do it for bringing in 2013 but anything prior to that she did. She did what I have only recently found out the actual name of it First Footing.

First Footing
There is an old superstition in Scotland and some other parts of the UK that the first person to enter someone’s home on New Year’s Day will bring all the luck for the coming year with them. This person is known as the first footer.
Dark haired people are thought to be the luckiest first footers, and it is traditional to carry a limp of coal when going first footing.

So basically my Nana had dark hair and every New Years Eve she would walk outside to the end of the drive with a lump of coal and re-enter her house. Think she used to have some money as well with it for good fortune. So over the years whenever we have rung her and my grandad to wish them a happy new year we would always ask had she been out to bring the coal in.

More than for new year i have some Christmas tradition, like watch the movie ''Trading places'' that i look every christmas from five years, for new year I use to have a walk on mountain roads and give my best friends a pomegranate as gift since it represents prosperity.
