Has anyone here vacationed on a cruise ship?

I was watching Modern Marvels on the History Channel yesterday and they had a segment on cruise ships. These floating cities are amazing to say the least. I'd be interested in where you went and what the trip was like.

I have and it was amazing! I would go back in a heart beat. There was plenty to do while at see, the people I met who either worked there or were other travelers were super nice, it was incredibly relaxing, and there was something geared for every age group. I went on Royal Caribbean and we stopped in St. Martin, San Juan, and a private beach in Haiti. You can't ask for a better vacation.

7 nights 1st class aboard 'island star' around the Mediterranean. Rome, Portofino, Nice, Monte Carlo etc. From the Continental Breakfast on our private balcony to the steak grill and pint on the rear deck at sunset i class this as being right up there at the top of my best list. Speed boats on the Italian Playboy circuit to Ferraris outside The Casino de Monte-Carlo and helicopters on the back of yachts backing on to the F1 racetrack. Enjoying a stogie in the same cafe as Elton John watching a playboy photo shoot before taking a helicopter back to the cruise ship is living.

Thanks. Sounds like a great time. 🙂

Wow. That's all I can say. What a vacation.

Did a cruise around the Norwegian Fjords a few years ago. We were on the Balmoral, one of Fred Olsen's larger ships but still small by cruise ship standards with space for around 1300 guests.
There was still plenty to do and we enjoyed the more intimate feel of this smaller ship.
I'd recommend both Norway & Cruising.

What great scenery! Thanks for the pictures. 😀

I went on a cruise with my girlfriend at the time a couple of years ago around New Zealand. It was such an amazing holiday, NZ has such beautiful scenery and we were stopping in different parts of the country everyday doing heaps of cool stuff like 'Zorbing' (rolling down a hill inside a giant inflatable ball half-filled with water). It's a really convenient way to holiday too, obviously having accomodation and food (amazing food, too) all sorted out for you. I would definitely recommend it!

I went on a few cruises in the Caribbean in the 1990's, once on a ship that held 2400 passengers so it could be called a floating city. I always went in early January, for one week. It was great to get out of a NYC winter into the warm sunshine.

Biggest advantage: You get to see four or five islands and only have to pack and unpack once.
Biggest disadvantage: You will need to go on a diet when you get home. Too much food is offered, too many times per day.

If you’ve been on one Caribbean cruise, you’ve been on them all IMHO. Sure, some island/Mexico stops are more fun than others, but nothing that makes you burn for another trip.

Alaska was beautiful, but that’s just because it wasn’t the Caribbean again.

It’s important though to pick the right cruise line/ship. Being cooped up on a floating resort with 1000+ other passengers for the better part of a week isn’t my first choice when I think of fun, but the right choice of companies can make a big difference.

I highly recommend you gather a group of good friends/family for one big ocean adventure; I guarantee the food will be fantastic and the booze overpriced, but it’s something you should definitely experience at least once in life.

My wife (fiance at the time) and I went on a cruise to Alaska, which stopped off in Canada on the way back. It was a great experience and a fun trip, aside from it raining practically every day, which killed any hope of seeing the Northern Lights. Canada was absolutely beautiful. The company was Princess Cruises. On the ship, it's all you can eat, all the time so plan on gaining some weight unless you spend time in the gym on the ship.

During the trip, there was this Filipina hottie that worked for Princess that kept flirting with me. Loved the attention... and those sweet, succulent legs. 😛
