Have any of you gotten a chance to watch the new shows that started this week? So far, I have watched three. "Las Vegas" on Monday, and "Miss Match", and "Hope and Faith" last night. So far, from what I've seen, "Las Vegas" looks entertaining, and has a chance to be a real hit. "Miss Match" was entertaining, and has potential. "Hope and Faith" was a bit silly, I thought, especially a scene where they had a food fight in the kitchen.
One thing that did strike me as interesting is that in both "Las Vegas" and "Miss Match", the main characters in both those shows, James Caan and Alicia Silverstone, played characters that were very similar to ones they have played in movies. I'm sure many on here have seen the Alicia Silverstone movie, "Clueless" where she plays a high school teenager, and one of her main purposes in life is to set her friends up, and make them happy, while staying single herself. (At least until the end of the movie) In "Honeymoon in Vegas", for those of you who havent seen it, Caan plays a gambler who takes Nic Cage for a lot of money in a card game, and wants to settle by spending the weekend with Cage's girlfriend, who is none other than Sex in the City's Sarah Jessica Parker. While Caan does not play a gambler in the tv show Las Vegas, the hotel boss character with the tough side and almost gangster mentality is very similar to that he played in the movie "Honeymoon in Vegas" I thought both shows were interesting, and both Caan and Silverstone had good performances in their roles. Hopefully the shows will do well. I was also happy to see Ryan O' Neal working again playing Silverstone's father on Miss Match. He had been a big actor in the 70s and 80s, and then battled personal and health problems. It is always heartwarming to see a person turn their lives around. It would be great if the show could be a success for him after so many years of personal problems.
The next new show I plan to look at tomorrow night is the "Lyon's Den" on NBC, starring another of my favorite 80's movie actors, Rob Lowe, who himself had career problems for many years until bouncing back in recent years with the "West Wing". The previews for the Lyon's Den looked very good, and I look forward to seeing Lowe in that role.
