my niece's boyfriend has a band called Hate Made Easy..and i believe they are working on a CD at the moment..they are a screamer band..i'm wondering..those of you in the know and whatnot..could you take a look at their myspace page and tell me what you think? you have to turn the sound up a bit..i had posted their website way over a year ago on another forum..but i'm thinking they might have improved somewhat since then..as the page now is newer..and they have newer songs..and don't worry..you won't be hurting my feelings at all over this..i'm just wondering if they have a future or not..they are located in Kansas..

Well Izzy as a vocalist of 5 years I can tell you it doesn't matter if they have a future or not because if they are screaming and not singing right they are going to get Nodules on their vocal cords that have to be removed surgically sometimes.Once that does happen they will not be able to sing the same way again.I would suggest to them to go get Voice lessons before they get hurt.

I've heard lots of bands which perform this style of music. I'm thinking that this band's just cutting their teeth, that they'll probably play what's popular for a while and then (hopefully) branch off and create something new. I mean, the Beatles and the Stones started out playing covers before they got their own repertoires together.

ETA - Damn, but I was a bit harsh there, was I not?

I never ever understood how screamers can do what they want. If I go for a ten minute car ride with my friends and I have to talk loudly over the radio, my throat's in bits - they must have vocal cords of steel. 0_0

Not too bad...

As a fan of screamer/deathmetal bands like Korn and Slayer, I'd have to say that was good, Maybe a little practice though

Not trying to be mean, just honest

i wanted honest opinions...it doesn't matter to me whether you like them or not..i prefer screamer bands to combine it with some singing myself..

and i sincerely thank those of you who took the time to listen and voice your honest critique..it's why i asked..

Izzy I am honestly concerned that they are going to get hurt doing this.
* Amanda Palmer of The Dresden Dolls said in January 2008 that she will undergo surgery for nodes in March 2008. She has also been forced to cancel a mini-tour because of the surgery.

* Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy had developed nodules after the first Arch Enemy album she screamed called Wages of Sin. She can still scream arvelously, but can no longer do many growls and deep toned screams. Her voice is much clearer and understandable after going to vocal lessons with Melissa Cross.

* Davey Havok, lead singer of AFI, suffered from vocal nodes, which forced AFI to cancel several shows on their Spring '04 tour as well as changed the style of his singing from a raspier style to a clearer style.

* Roughton Reynolds from Enter Shikari developed nodules and as a result missed several shows on their UK tour.

* Luciano Pavarotti developed vocal cord nodules early in his at-the-time mediocre career, leading him to renounce a life of music. Ironically, the psychological release associated with this decision and soon-after disappearance of the nodules lead to an incredible improvement in his sound quality.

* Freddie Mercury pianist and lead singer of Queen, was a famous sufferer of the disease.

* Natalie Imbruglia developed nodules during the 90's and had them removed a few years later, this noticeably improved the timbre in her voice.

* A young Lucinda Williams developed nodules and later had them removed.

* Julie Andrews also suffered from vocal cord nodules and famously lost her singing voice after surgery to remove them.

* Robert Plant, singer of band Led Zeppelin received treatment for nodules in 1973 and possibly 1974. This resulted in a drop in range of voice and a harsh timbre on the 1975 album Physical Graffiti.

* Bonnie Tyler, in 1977, found out that she had nodules that were so severe that she had to have surgery for their removal. After the surgery was performed, she was ordered to not speak for six weeks. One day while healing, she accidentally screamed and her voice took on a raspy quality.

* Whitney Houston developed nodules during her famous Bodyguard tour in 1993-1994. At the time, she was unable to rest her voice to prevent permanent damage. She has been able to continue a successful singing career since then, but her voice has developed a noticeable, darker and hoarser tone than before.

* Sarah Brightman developed nodules after her Harem world tour in 2004; she had surgery to remove them.

* Bette Midler developed nodules in 2006-2007.

* Natalie Dessay, a famous operatic lyric-coloratura, underwent surgery in 2001 to remove nodules and polyps on two of her vocal cords, following vocal difficulties after recovering from a cold. Although the quality of her voice now is debatable by some opera critics and fans, Natalie Dessay has made a complete recovery and continues to perform in opera.

* 2003 Australian Idol contestant, Cosima De Vito pulled out from the competition after developing throat nodules.

* Justin Timberlake had surgery to remove vocal nodules in 2005.

* In March 2005, Blue singer Lee Ryan developed a nodule, and as a consequence had to cancel the boy band's farewell tour.

* Goo Goo Dolls' lead singer Johnny Rzeznik, Everclear lead singer Art Alexakis, and Tony Rice, bluegrass guitarist and singer, all have suffered from the condition.

* Steve Augeri of the band Journey was forced to leave the band when his nodules got so severe in the 2006 tour that a replacement singer was drafted in to continue the tour.

* In October 2006 Jet guitarist and singer Nic Cester was diagnosed with the disease.

* Bert McCracken, vocalist of The Used, developed a nodule in his vocal cord, and underwent surgery during the summer of 2007. The nodule was successfully removed.

* Sonny Moore, vocalist of From First to Last, also had a nodule in his vocal cord. After surgery for its removal, he tore a vocal cord.

* Joss Stone had nodules and was told by doctors that she had to rest her voice otherwise permanent damage could be caused.

* Oasis lead singer Liam Gallagher is rumored to suffer from nodules, based upon some of his live performances in recent years.

* Tom Keifer, lead singer of the rock band Cinderella, developed nodules as a result of his singing voice, a raspy, affected snarl. He underwent repeated surgeries for the disorder.

* Tedd Webb, a Tampa Bay area radio personality, had his nodule condition diagnosed by a doctor who heard Webb's raspy voice over the air. The doctor phoned him at the station and soon after performed surgery to cure the condition.

* Billy Lunn (Morgan) lead singer of The Subways had nodules removed in January 2007.

* Korean Singer Gummy has reported that she occasionally suffers from vocal fold nodules.

* Brian Joo of Korean boyband Fly to the sky suffered from vocal fold nodule due to a hectic promotion schedule and an over-exertion of his vocal cords.

Can abusing the voice create problems?
Voice abuse through technical dysfunction is an extremely common source of hoarseness, vocal weakness, pain and other complaints. In some cases, voice abuse can even create structural problems such as vocal nodules, cysts and polyps. Now that the components of voice function are better understood, techniques have been developed to rehabilitate and train the voice in speech and singing. Such voice therapy improves breathing and abdominal support, decreases excess muscle activity in the larynx and neck, optimizes the mechanics of transglottal (through the vocal fold area) airflow and maximizes the contributions of resonance cavities. It also teaches vocal hygiene, including techniques to eliminate voice strain and abuse, maintain hydration and mucosal function, mitigate the effects of smoke and other environmental irritants and optimize vocal and general health. A voice therapy team includes an otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat doctor) specializing in voice, a speech-language pathologist specially trained in voice, a singing voice specialist with training in vocal injury and dysfunction, and when needed, an arts-medicine psychologist, psychiatrist, pulmonologist, neurologist, exercise physiologist, or other specialist. Progress is monitored not only by listening to the patient and observing the disappearance of laryngeal pathology when it is present, but also by quantitative measurement parameters in the clinical voice laboratory. However, in some cases there are structural problems in the larynx that are correctable only with surgery.

What are vocal nodules?
Small, callous-like bumps on the vocal folds called nodules are caused by voice abuse (Figure 8). Occasionally, laryngoscopy reveals asymptomatic vocal nodules that do not appear to interfere with voice production; in such cases, the nodules need not be treated. Some famous and successful singers have had untreated vocal nodules throughout their entire careers. However, in most cases nodules are associated with hoarseness, breathiness, loss of range, and vocal fatigue. They may be due to abuse of the voice during either speaking or singing. Voice therapy always should be tried as the initial therapeutic modality and will cure the vast majority of patients even if the nodules look firm and have been present for many months or years. Even in those who eventually need surgical excision of the nodules, preoperative voice therapy is essential to prevent recurrence.

Caution must be exercised in diagnosing small nodules in patients who have been speaking or singing actively. In many people, bilateral, symmetrical soft swellings at the junction of the anterior and middle thirds of the vocal folds develop after heavy voice use. No evidence suggests that people with such “physiologic swelling” are predisposed to development of vocal nodules. At present, the condition is generally considered to be within normal limits. The physiologic swelling usually disappears with 24 to 48 hours of rest from heavy voice use

They should get voice lessons to make sure they don't harm their voice

I say they should go on with what they're doing. These strange tumors (IT'S NOT A TUMOR!) may or may not strike anybody. This list of people is long, though strange... I don't seem to see any heavy metal singers on this list.

Huh. How interesting. Nobody who performs their style of music appears on this list! Aren't they lucky!?

Also, nearly every one of these persons listed who's had surgery went on to be more successful after, or was unaffected. That said, I'm not a screamo fan, but if they enjoy doing it, that's what matters!

I wish them great success in Rock and Roll. They could tighten up a bit, but then, what beginner band doesn't hear that advice?

Klaus Meine of The Scorpions ?, Isn't a metal vocalist ? Sorry Jimmy, I'd say that he qualifies. Also, didn't the vocalist for Britney Fox who sang "Girls School" kill his own voice ?
Just asking, Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm not big on what I heard by this band, But if Izzy's niece likes them then thats cool.

I dig em. They've got some pretty creative riffs and a good image. They honestly could have a future in metal.

Yeah, because a guy who sings with a clear, operatic style is sooooo similar to someone who screams. That's like saying the late Isaac Hayes and the Vienna Boys' Choir have the same voice.

These are all things that can damage your voice. There are a lot of things you can do to your voice that will damage it if you don't get proper training.
(1) Smoking or drinking alcoholic beverages.
(2) Belting: using too much chest voice pushed up to high in the scale.
(3) Using a technique with a tight solar plexus during singing.
(4) Singing with a high larynx.
(5) Singing with a low soft palate.
(6) Singing with a forward jaw position.
(7) Singing with the vocal cords too far apart or too squeezed together.
(8) Pushing too much breath pressure through the larynx.
(9) Incorrect posture; dropped chest or hyper-extended chest.
(10) Singing with the head posture pushed forward from the spine.
(11) Use of mouth vowels instead of pharyngeal vowels.
(12) Unsupported singing; lack of connection to the resistance of breath pressure in the lower back and abdominal muscles.
I have been singing for 5years now and I still have not learned everything and make mistakes. The one thing all my teachers told me was DO NOT SCREAM.

Long term vocal cord damage can be caused simply by not singing properly. There have been many a singers throughout history who have sounded good but were singing improperly.inging in hard raspy tone, or screaming while you are singing will likely cause you to damage your vocal cords. If you are singing and by the 3rd song you are feeling strain in your throat then you are not singing properly. Singing should come out naturally you should not have to strain, if you are straining you are either singing in a way that is not natural for you or you are not using your body properly.

Those who sing with power and without strain have learned to use their diaphragm and stomach muscles. They have learned to use proper breath control. This is wear a voice teacher can come in handy. Even if you were born with a naturally beautiful voice that does not mean that you will not benefit from a voice teacher or vocal coach. They can teach you how to use the core of your body to enhance your voice, this will not only make you a more powerful singer but will also help to protect you from vocal strain. They can also help you to increase your breath control, and teach you the best way to take breaths at the proper times while singing. Knowing how and when to breath during a song will also help you to avoid vocal strain and will help you to sing every word more powerfully.

Practicing deep breathing exercises and constantly challenging your voice to hold a single note for a long period of time without taking breaths can really help you in the long run.

Also if you are singing for a living keeping yourself in good physical condition will be helpful to not only keep you performing stronger but will help you from getting breathless and having to force out your notes. If you are in good aerobic shape you will easily be able sing longer and with more power than someone who is not

The exact cause of vocal nodules and polyps is uncertain, but experts believe they both result from overuse and abuse of the voice. Singers and people who scream, yell, or habitually overuse their voice are at risk for developing these conditions
http://www.handicapped.org/konfuciy.asp?tda=dt&t=8735&fs=Vocal+Nodules+and+Polyps

I can't stress this to you enough that screaming is dangerous and harmful to your voice!

Jimmy, Please know and understand that I hold you in high esteem and respect.
I'm just noting that Klaus Meine is considered a heavy metal vocalist, at least that what fans of "The Scorpions" would say. I'm not the biggest fan of "The Scorpions", and I'm not really into "Hate made easy". Not trying to draw a comparison of their vocal talent or range. But I'm sure there is an audience for both bands.

It would be interesting to see, or know of vocalists from Progressive Metal Like Geoff Tate of "QueensRyche"
http://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=G4afP2WHzoM
(one of my favorite songs.)
or Midnight of "Crimson Glory"
http://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=BH3h0OS84tM
http://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=aVJAWRnhnzs
(two of their videos, since I'm uncertain how many have heard of them.
Both show his incredible range.)
if they've had any problems with their vocal nodes.

With the Notes those 2 can hit I'm almost certain they've been hit.
