I have a clip on windows media player which I would like the images of. and unfortunately, I am unable to save the image of said video to my computer through use of the media player, I have used the print screen key and such and the picture nebver shows up. I have a windows xp computer and yep. I would like to know how I do it.

I'm not going to say this'll work for sure, because I know my computer hates me! And it is linked to your computer too! So I'm sorry if it doesn't and you wasted your time.
BUT>>
Open your video in media player, pause it, then click on options up top. In options find the tab that says performance. In the performance tab find the slider for acceleration. Bring it all the way to the left for no acceleration. Hit apply and ok and stuff, back to your video.
Find your still with the pause button in media player and use the PrtScn button on your keyboard, open your paint program and clik new and paste
Crop as needed...

...Unless this doesn't work...

Don't forget to go back into media player and turn full acceleration back on!!! And take a note, next time you meet me, throw a brick at the back of my head for wasting your time...

I'm not going to say anything bad about RM player, but you do know I am holding my tongue...

I can not get a screen grab from Realmedia for the death of me!!!!

Or... my computer hates me!!!

It works thank you tkls 4 your tummy!
by the way. I am also looking for a way to do the rm thing.

I think this should be a sticky mistressvalerie or any other moderators.

ive got a progrm that will work for ya, its called "Cyberlink Power Dvd", all u do is just play the file and push "C" on the keyboard to capture image.

Cyberlink Power DVD isn't free, but VLC Player is.

It plays all video formats except the Real format. Under "video" on the menu bar, there's a convenient "Snapshot" function that saves the current frame as a png pic to your "My Pictures" folder.

As for taking a screen capture of a Real video, I can only think of converting it to the other formats that are playable by VLC player.

Pressing CTRL+I in WMP versions above 8 allows you to capture the video frame as a .jpg. Snapfiles also has a free video capture utility here: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/superresolution.html

Ctl+I doesn't work for me... does it give you a save dialog or just save it in some default place, or allow you to paste it into an image editor? I've never heard of this before.

Ctrl+I (as well as most other methods of screen capture, such as VirtualDub) will not work on .wmv videos because of a legal settlement involving Microsoft, but on all other Windows media formats, it will open a dialog box inviting you to save the screencap to your "My Photos" folder with the default name "capture" in .jpg format.

Yes... I have been Stickied!!!!!
I have an asf file, and it doesn't work for that either, or is it another agreement?

This method should let you take screenies/vidcaps, including live video streams, using any program and for any file format.

(Windows XP)

-START-

Right Click Desktop -> Properties
Settings -> Advanced -> Troubleshoot
Move hardware acceleration slider to far left & click apply

-END-

This will make sure any program you are capping from or making a clip with bypasses your graphics card acceleration, which is what can cause the dreaded black screenie syndrome.

Remember to turn hardware acceleration back up to full by moving the slider back to the far right when you are finished capping or recording, else some programs might not work properly 🙂

One good program which will take care of all your screen capturing / video recording needs is SnagIt, which can be found here http://www.techsmith.com/

Good luck and have fun 😀

I have an electronics degree, so I'm not too bad with PC's. Hope the advice helps anyway hehe
