For the past week or so, every morning when I wake up and check my E-mail, my mailbox is FULL (sometimes over 150%) with e-mails, sometimes bigger than a 100K each and every single one of them infected with a virus. I'm thankful Yahoo has a good virus filter so most of them end up in the bulk mail folder. But a few do end up in my inbox. These ones scare me more, it claims to have a file attatchment but its only 1K in size. Its gotten worse, in the past half hour alone I've recieved 5 more!! And all of them disguised with familiar e-mail address' EVEN FROM PEOPLE I KNOW HERE AT THE FORUM! (Josie, Chimp, LGZ, etc.)

And of course Yahoo makes it impossible to ask for help directly, no E-mail addys are listed for tech support or anything. Anyone know what I should do? Or maybe where I can get a better virus scanner/filter program? Currently I have:

McAfee VirusScan v4.5.1 SP1
Ad-Aware 6.0
Spy-Bot Search & Destroy

Does it say in the body of the e-mail "please see the attached file for details"? I've been getting clobbered by these in the past 2 days.

I've just been deleting them but was wondering where the hell they came from?

Ha!! I just got another as I was writing this. :sowrong:

These people should be put in jail and made to listen to something really annoying for their entire sentence.

I had the same problem

The exact same problem here. Every day, usually more then once a day, I was greeted with a message from yahoo telling me my email box was over capacity. It was nothing but spam generated by a virus.

I finally did complain to yahoo asking why these couldn't be deleted before reaching my email box. They replied, but didn't actually read my complaint. All I rec'd was an explanation of viruses, and how not to get infected. Idiots!!

Anyway, my problem seems to have cleared up. I think most of mine was generated from an infected yahoo group (or somehow related to yahoo groups). I deleted a lot of my memberships in yahoo groups, and my email is almost back to normal. I'm only recieving about 2 or 3 virus emails a day in stead of hundreds.

One other thing, I don't believe any of the spam filters that you can purchase work on web email, and your virus protection will only help if you open an infected file, it will not filter out the useless emails.

Just my 2 cents...

The forum got 337 of them today.

Create a rule to shunt them into the trash. Easy to do.

That doesn't help a whole lot with yahoo mail. Anything that is in your trash, or your bulk email folder, counts towards the storage limit for the account.

Empty the trash after the rule filters fill it? One click and it's gone.

Yes, I'm well aware of that. I'm not stupid. I was addressing the original posters concern about the messages he receives about being over his storage limit. If the email box fills up during the day, whether it's in the spam folder, or trash, you will not get regular mail-yahoo returns it. Once the spam is deleted, you're back to normal, however unless you can be online deleting virus email every 10 minutes, the problem will continue.

I've been getting them for a little over a week now as well. Funny how I only get them on the addresses known to the tickling community. Someone doesn't like me. Awww, shucks. Now I won't be able to sleep at night! :sowrong:

I had them a while ago on my old email addy which I rarely used since I changed to hotmail. A huge amount of spam everyday flooded it, one day I counted them for fun: 213 mails in 24 h! So I cancelled the old account completely.

Strange enough: The spam only occurred at the account which I used previously for my TMF mail, the new one is still untouched. I'm only in some rather old address books, I guess... 😛
