Some people wrote to me and said that San Diego is great. Any ideas? I've temped in Wisconsin (hated it), Florida (too many old folks), and Wyoming (uggh).

Looking for new options.

You might try contacting San Diego's chamber of commerce, city hall,or other offices with access to demographics as well as weather statistics.

thanks

Thanks for the suggestion.

The problem I've had so far is that the information from places like the chamber of commerce really doesn't tell you anything about the personality or demographics of a town. There just isn't any good replacement for speaking to people who have actually lived or been there.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I do appreciate it.

Well geez....don't I feel just damn peachy and proud now to live in Wisconsin. Man. And here I was under the impression that I ENJOYED living here, and it was a cool state.

Hey, I DO feel that way. And everyone I have ever met here is wonderful. Perhaps it is your approach? I know the results of my first impression.

I am also in Wisconsin. It depends a lot on who you hang around with. Most of the people I have met are nice. I have indeed found nasty people, but they are everywhere.

I do have to agree with the "fattest in America" remark. Most people here are overweight. I guess it is a combination of long winters, sausages, cheese and bear. Not a good thing is you actually want to be in shape.

I also agree that people in Wisconsin are not necessarilly the "friendliest" people in the US. People in the South are a lot warmer and forthcoming. However, you can still socialize and make friends.

Have you ever considered hanging out with foreigners? They would not have this Republican mentality and will not be baised towards a specific unfriendly behavior. They will behave as they behave in their country. Just a thought...

As for San Diego, great climate, more expensive than Wisconsin, and better looking women. I have familty there and they love it.

My brother and his family are also in Wisconsin and have found the people to be wonderful. Though the weather IS a bit harsh at times.

OK....So Wisconsin isn't for you. I doubt that you'll find a perfect location anywhere. There is no such thing. But, if you're serious about looking, here's a suggestion. Try doing a search in Yahoo groups for the area(s) you're considering. There are a lot of localized groups that may give you a good feel for what you might expect to find. Good luck.

San Diego does tend to lean a bit towards the right on the political scale, but here's the dirty secret: Most of California, with the exception of Los Angeles and the Bay Area, is quite conservative.

I know, I know... It's hard to believe, but it's true.

The more liberal areas of the state also tend to be more expensive. Everywhere in the state is going to cost more than the midwest.

Arizona and New Mexico are cheaper, but very, very conservative once you get out of the large cities.

My opinion? San Diego is a great place with terrific weather and nice people, you just have to search around to find the type of nice people you'd like to associate with.

Might I suggest a visit?
