I've gotta do a literature review for one of my modules at uni...I've finally thought of a topic which is looking at surveillance in the workplace with the research question-Is Big Brother Watching In The Workplace? But I'm not sure what the layout should be like...has anyone had to do a literature review before? If so what should it look like?

Ok, you want to start out with an over view of your essay, maybe 150 words long just outlining what you want to talk about. For the actual body of your essay, you should plan out what you're going to discuss, and maybe do some reading around the topic, go to your Uni library and search the book database for things that are relavent (George Orwell's 1984, and Alan Moore's Graphic novel V for Vendetta would be good stuff to start with) Maybe something to do with Buisness management. Look at different ways that bosses keep tabs on their employees, via electronics, and even work place ethics, encouraging people to spy on their colleagues.

Really, if you need advice on planning this in a more concise way go visit your tutor they should be able to help you out and give you some more guidance.

Thanks Xin.Well I would go to my tutor be he's really scary. Thanks for the advice!

Hey,

Well Xin has said a lot of good stuff there. As for finding a lot of relevant material regarding surveillance in the workplace, I'm not sure what to look at, especially with this being a literature review. I do agree 1984 will be a great resource, since that's where Big Brother actually features, and there's plenty to pick up on, from the Telescreens and the manipulation of the lottery right down to the Thought Police - lots and lots 😀

Can't exactly remember but look at Aldous Huxley's Brave New World - might be some stuff in there. But I think the main problem will be making your review RELEVANT eg. concentrating on the workplace aspect, and not deviating from the track too much.

Bloody hell, just remembering literature and English studies and such makes my head spin. Good luck and hope you get some good info!

Moondog 😀

I just did a load of cross quoting for mine.

Person A said this.

In contrast Person B said this.

Person C agrees with person A by saying...

And just went like that.
