German mathematician, actually born in what's now Lithuania. Worked in quadratic forms, invented the field of geometric number theory. Einstein used his work in formulating relativity. Died almost 100 years ago.

Well, we use Minkowski diagrams alot in astronomy class for teaching relativity.
